I am seriously considering writing a letter of interest to my number one school, but I don't know where to start. Regardless of the pros and cons, my view is that it can only help, and considering my situation I think it writing the letter is in my best interest. I interviewed at my number one on 12/4/07 and I feel it went well. However, I wasn't fortunate enough to afford applying to a large number of schools. As a result, I feel it is realistic to believe that I stand a chance of being granted one, maybe two more interviews (if I am lucky). The truth of the matter is that regardless of any other interviews or acceptances I may be granted, I would turn them all down in the face of an acceptance to my number one, and I want them to know that. Is there anyone out there with experience writing one of these letters? If I do this, I want it to be compelling, and honestly I really would like to know what you all think medical schools want to hear. I can cite a thousand reasons why I want to attend this particular school, but I only want to write about the few that may positively impact their opinion on my candidacy. Any input would be appreciated.

You might want to do a search in this forum for "letter of interest" and "letter of intent". There's a lot of discussion out there about this and what you should write. It sounds like what you want to send is a letter of intent, since you would withdraw from all other schools to go to that school. You should make that clear in your letter if that is how strongly you feel. In my letter of interest (which is essentially the same as a letter of intent, but without the language telling them that they're IT), I talked about the main things that I love about the school most, and why I would make a great fit there. I of course referenced things that I learned about the school at my interview. I think this letter should be very personal and show your perspective on the school and your goals, so I don't necessarily think posting for ideas of what to write is necessarily going to help you all that much. It should really jibe with your application and pull it all together in a compelling way. At least, that's my take on it. Good luck!
