My first LOR has become a victim of the fabled mail abyss, sucked forever into the oblivion of lost LORs.

My writer sent out a new copy, but unfortunately he does not have another copy of the "evaluation" that my OPPA asks us to have filled out in addition to a letter. Are these things really necessary? I have never seen them mentioned anywhere else and, if they're pointless, I won't worry about getting another one.

You need to check with the school, but most schools require either a letter OR the evaluation form they supply. Usually, if you are able to subsititute the eval form for the letter, then their form is not required.

If you waived your right to see the eval letter (recommended) then you would have no way of keeping a copy. Be sure to keep copies of everything else possible so you can review prior to interviews. I wouldn't sweat the eval form - good luck..

Office of Pre-Professional Advising. I did waive my right, but the prof sent me a copy anyways.

If your OPPA does it like mine did, you may want to check with them and explain what happened. OPPAs can really put you in a good light or they can be a pain in the ass and hold up your application. At Auburn, all of your evaluators send their lor to the OPPA then they (the OPPA) write a composite letter based on your resume, your lors, and the interviews that you have to do with them. Then, they send out all your lors and their composite letter to the schools you applied to. Some schools love these letters and they carry a lot of weight...other schools, not so much. Anyhow, my point is that if your school does it like Auburn, they wouldn't consider your application complete until they get all the info they want to have a meeting about you and write your composite so check with them about if you should have another one filled out or not; you don't want your application held up over an evaluation. If not, then like Radman said, check with the schools you are applying to as to what they want you to send in. Good Luck.

Are you talking about DO LOR's. My Preprofessional advising dept. also has people fill out evaluations but I opted to bypass them when it came to DO letters because I SIMPLY DID NOT TRUST THEM. At my school they make up a composite letter so if they do not like you they can withhold good info from people and turn things around to fit their own personal agenda. But those are just my views. I did not want my DO letters to be tainted.
