Maybe you didn't get the memo but I'm trying to live in denial right now. :meanie:

I'm looking forward to rotations. I know it will suck and be a lot of work, but it will be a great learning experience.

Then again, I'm a triathlete, so I define my happiness by how much pain I can endure.

...It's all very exciting and nerve wrecking rolled into one little package. What rotation do you all think will be the most difficult for you to go through and why? (knowing what u know about yourself... well yourself as of today)

For me, ob/gyn will be the hardest. It will be like a kid finding out that santa claus is really just some fat guy in a suit. Something that has always been fun and happy for me will be transformed, instantaneously, into something vile and putrid.

Pediatrics for me....Oh kids -- I really don't like them. All the screaming, crying, jibberish talk, and their annoying parents.

I have little patience for little patients.

Punchap, when I was a medic I really hated squalling screaming crying kids until I had a run of ones that didn't. Ever since, a crying kid has been the best sound EVER. I just don't want to do peds 'cuz dealing with some of the parents is not my cup of tea.

It takes all kinds of physicians to fill all the specialties. Just glad there are folks who do what makes me want to vomit -- like GI. I really don't do poo. I'm gonna lose a lot of weight if I have to deal much with that end of business. I can see it now: first time I puke on a GI bleed I'm going to get all the manual disimpactions they can find just so they can watch me continuously vomit. Great.

Agreed...although I don't really like kids at this point in my life, it still breaks my heart to see one suffering. Oooh, GI...yeah it takes all kinds. 🙂

I'll tell you right now, as a tech, I've worked with some pretty nasty **** (no pun intended)... But of all the putrid smells, and I've smelt them all (necrotizing tissue, cervical cancer discharge, c-diff, bile, vomit of all assortments), the worst by far is a GI bleed. I don't know what it is about them, or why it smells so horrible but you will never forget that smell. They say just breath through your mouth right? Wrong. You can taste it and if you are curious enough to take a wiff, you will puke. That's the stuff that smells up an entire wing. But a little nugget of advice -a little Vicks vapor rub under the nose can make it bearable.

After reading that post, I will always associate the taste of seven grain salad with GI bleeds!

Texas,
In this site you should visit the "funniest chief complaints" thread. It is absolutely hilarious

I have read it, and even contributed. And I am about to contribute again.
