The new manual of surgical pathology..any difference from the old version?

A new edition of Manual of Surgical Pathology (Lester book) has just emerged. For those who bought the new book, does it show significant difference from the old edition (with the exception of online availability of the new edition)?

Grossing comes from experience. Reading a book about it is like reading a book on how to ride a bicycle. If you want to read about something, read about histopathology and memorize all the pictures.

This is the 1st time I've seen the book available in hard cover. I can't believe how expensive it is. If I remember correctly, the 1st edition was only $50-60 when I started residency in 2003.

If you just want to learn about grossing, I doubt there's going to be much difference between the 2 editions. I recall one of the differences between the 1st & 2nd editions was the addition of a table for immunostains. It was nice to have, but the information was available elsewhere.

It seems like there have been a lot of new versions to Lester's grossing manual. It ain't changing that fast.

Your program should have this or Westra's manual in their resident library. You'll only need it if you are grossing something challenging for the first few times (eg. Whipple). Don't buy it.
