I am the editor of The New Physician magazine (www.amsa.org/tnp) and I am working on a cover story for the April issue on the subject of perceived bias and other issues confronting medical students/residents who choose psychiatry as a specialty. I am interested in hearing some of your experiences, and what you perceive to be the major challenges facing new psychiatrists in the 21st century including:
Managed care and mental health parity
Backlash against psychiatric drugs by some groups
New diagnoses ("personality" vs biological aspects of mental health)
Whether psychiatrists should include cognitive/behavioral therapy in their practice
The movement for non-MDs/DOs to prescribe
Perceived shortage of psychiatrists in the US
And any other issues you feel are important!
Please email me at [email protected] if you would like to chat!
