The "new" Psychiatry Board Exam in Sept

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Any idea what percentage of correct answers required to pass ? I know I should get over this exam but its getting better lol

Im just as obsessed as you are. I am trying to CBT myself and not catastrophise. The fact that both of us are concerned and studied a lot for the test and really didn't think the stand alone questions were bad is probably a very good sign. There's probably more evidence to support our passing then not, but there is always that randomness factor.

I have no idea the percentages or even what my friends meant by this. She told me her scores were numbers or some numbers in the 80s for psych and neuro was a different several months ago. She passed, but I don't know the cutoff or even exactly what her scores were. This was all several months ago, so I dont remember more and I don't think she knew more. Sorry...not very helpful.

EDIT: Just reread the instructions and part C is graded separately...as "clinical psychiatry." Now I think there is evidence to suggest that I failed.

I thought that most og the mcq's were okay. a few were terrible though and a couple of questions had no good options/answers

Out of a block of like 60 or 65 questions, I felt that I knew 40 to 45 without much thought. Then another 10 or so questions I could narrow down to two options. And there was always a few questions each block that I had no clue about.

Feel good factor - Last year 86% passed the new pattern certification exam !

I didn't post on here after the test because I went on a little out of town weekend trip for a break and forget about the test. It only worked somewhat -I still kept thinking about this stupid thing!

For the standalone questions, they were okay for the most part. Some of them were so easy -they were done in like 2 seconds and hit the Next button. Still, there were several or maybe more questions in each section that I didn't know and none of the answer choices seemed right. Now b/c of the after-test jitters, all I think about is all the questions I probably answered wrong and b/c of that, can't pass!

The vignettes were ridiculous. My thoughts are exactly like the ones posted here, so I won't repeat them all. I couldn't even get a diagnosis on a lot of them, and b/c of the next questions, I found out my diagnosis was wrong and was kicking myself!

Like others have said, I would say I studied moderately hard or even more for this test. I went over things multiple times, did everything and even more than Beat the Boards had to offer, etc. So I don't think I should have had the difficulty I had on the vignettes. It's good to see everyone's thoughts after the test on here. Just like you, I can't stop thinking about this!

I agree with the previous posters regarding the frustrations of Part C.
I called ABPN and they said all concerns should be put in writing and can be mailed, faxed, or emailed to [email protected] and should be addressed to Dr Larry Faulkner. I sent my concerns. I just wanted to provide the contact information in case anyone else wanted to send their concerns as well.

Well, I started this thread back in July and here I am again. Thank you to everyone for posting your thoughts after the exam, because I feel exactly the same way! I studied very hard for this test. I used BTB, saw each video and took notes, read through BTB notes multiple times, read their supplemental material, read their updated notes for 2012, did kenney and speigel twice, and even went over a few Prites.

I didn't think I would have this much trouble for the clinical part considering all that! I actually thought the written vignettes were harder than the video and the audio ones. I couldn't pick a correct answer for many of them. I also got mad through each vignette b/c the correct answer to the previous question kind of appears multiple times in the next question, and I'm thinking "why?"

The standalone questions were easy for the most part. Of course, I still hope I got enough right b/c I now remember having trouble picking an answer for a lot of them (There was an exactly repeated question from the Prite, but they had given credit for all answers for that question that year on the Prite!!!)

I just talked to someone who took it last year, and she said on her score report, you had to have 70% on Part C to pass it. That's all the information she said was on it. I'm assuming this is percentage of correct questions and not some other 2-digit number. Hopefully they can throw out some questions. Don't know if I can get 70% on that part.

Dear All,

Was wondering if any colleague might be able to sell/or get me a copy of the kaufman notes? I'll be taking the boards in September and am trying to get my material together. Please let me know. I would appreciate it very much! inbox me!
