I know this is not exactly on topic but it does relate to medicine. Did anybody catch the latest "physician" on the Today show. Yes, Tom Cruise is now a doctor. Well, he didn't actually have to spend 4 yrs. in med school or 6 years in a psychiatry residency but he sure can diagnose and prescribe. Check this out, "...and I know psychiatry is a pseudoscience." How about this one, "There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance," and that through "vitamins and exercise" a person's problems can be cured. "Drugs are not the answer," said Cruise. "I think there's a better quality of life." Wow, not only is Tom C. a physician but he's also a psychiatric historian. "And she [Brooke Shields] doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. She doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it, Matt." When I heard this this morning, I was blown away. I have a degree in clinical psychology and know for a fact that abnormal psychology is often due to chemical issues in the brain such as excessive seratonin or deficient seratonin. Amazing that the Hollywood types have no limits to their ego. I think Tom's assertions do more damage to psychiatry than any help. There is room for holistic therapy but a person w/ OCD won't be helped w/ herbs and vitamins. They need a script. I wish Tom Cruise would stick to what he knows and does best which is playing a race car driver, Navy pilot, or lawyer and leave the diagnosis and treatment of real medical diseases to those who have devoted their lives to finding cures for these illnesses.

Ditto. It's one thing to have an opinion on a matter. But, Tommy needs to keep em to himself.

Uhm, did Matt or whoever the interviewer was correct him? Sounds like pretty disgusting behavior.
