Recently, I heard a statistic that of the pool of U.S. Medical Graduates who apply to RAD/ ONC, only about 1-in-4.5 are successful because the pool of available slots is so small (approx 120). I knew that RAD/ONC was competitive, but not to this degree. Can anyone corroborate the validity of this statistic?

4.5 applicants per open spot? That's quite the exaggeration.

Throw out the IMGs and the non-senior US applicants and it's more like 1.7-1.8 US senior applicants per open spot. The significant expansion in the number of Rad Onc residency slots over the past 5 years or so has really helped to make the odds not nearly as ridiculous as it had become for a while.
