The Official 1/28/2011 MCAT Club!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I meant too early to start the club.

I don't imagine January to be a very popular time to take the test, anyways.

I didn't realize how desirable my new club would be. This success is a complete surprise.

my princeton review mcat class starts next week. i will be taking the jan test. are the registrations open already?

I'm in. I started studying a little last week but will begin to study as if it's my job until January.

starting tmw!

anyone created a study plan yet? im thinking of converting mine to excel and posting if anyone is interested.

My plan is to review all the bio, chem, physics during the remaining month of summer, and keep on practicing the entireeeeeeee fall semester!that's the best I could come up with because I have classes, I don't wanna mess my life up! :scared: especially that my my finals will be on january too! but hopefully by then I will be very well prepared!🙂

what study materials is everyone using? anyone taking a class?

im going to convert my schedule to excel and post. if anyone else is able to, that would be great!

kaplan! I'm not taking any mcat class though..I heard kaplan isn't that good 😕 it seems good to me so far..but I'll get other books, problem is I only know kaplan, are there other books I need to get 😕
I don't have a fixed schedule, I hate schedules 😀 I asked you to post yours out of curiousity 🙂

Are most of you going to be taking classes this semester?

LOL....I wish! I finished undergrad and grad school years ago. I am an epidemiologist in NYC (and yup working the H1N1 outbreak last year was FUN!). My MCAT studying will take place after work and on the weekends. I have the TPR and EK materials. I plan to use mostly TPR because it's comprehensive and that's what I need right now. I will use EK for verbal because it's straight to the point.

as of now that's my plan 🙂

I think January is a great time to take the test. For one, hopefully you will have the whole winter break, minus christmas, and new years to study. Also, in the case that you dont do as well as you were expecting, youll get your scores within the first days of march, so you would have plenty of time to decide if you want to take it again, and study for it.

Well good luck. I'm sure your experience will help with some of the more convoluted passages.

I will be studying with the Berkeley Review books, and I have the EK1001 books and TPRH Science Workbook for extra practice problems. I'm taking a full load of classes, so I will be sick of all things science by the time January 28 rolls around.

I'm like Dr. Alli and have a very detailed game plan. We'll see how it works out.

Hey! I created a study plan similar to SN2's 120 day one. I'm using the TPR Hyperlearning set and EK Bio 1001 and Verbal 101. I'm thinking about adding the TBR Chem & Physics set into my study schedule around Dec. So I can have a strong grasp on topics. Most likely will get TBR for Orgo and Physics, so I can have extra practice.

hey, I'm in too! Thought I should start studying early since I'm working full-time but you guys are way ahead of me 🙂
Probably going to start this weekend. I'm going to be using EK & BR.

how was it?!? what was PS like? ive heard its gotten much more mathematical and less conceptual? any words of insight?

what materials did you use? anything you would do differently????

Hey Moosen,

I am planning to study for this date as well with a full course load. I am kind of scared though, alot of people are saying too not take a full course load and just study for the MCAT only. Have you already made a study schedule to accommodate both full course load and mcat studying? Any help would be awesome!

Hey guys,

I decided to join too. I was suppose to take the MCAT in August but I decided to wait to apply next year. I haven't really study yet just glance over some books but I will start studying soon mostly after work and the weekends. Hopefully this will be the last time I have to take this thing. Good luck everyone!

Sign me up for membership. Does anyone know when registration opens? I'm going to start studying seriously in a couple of weeks. I'm glad to know we're in this together.

how is everyone studying? anyone starting passages yet? im doing my content review and following up with passages.... but im not doing well (averaging 4/7 to 5/7) and im afraid im using up good passages that i would benefit more from later.... any thoughts on this?

Personally, I think it would be a big mistake to stop doing practice problems after you study a particular subject. If you're not marking the questions in the book itself, you may be able to come back to these passages in a couple of months to remind yourself of equations and relationships. But if you don't do any practice problems you won't know how well you understood what you studied.

Probably going to start this weekend. I'm going to be using EK & BR.

good combo. If you have a weak background, EK is a poor way to start cuz it's a 'review'. However, if you have a good background, EK is a good choice. i started with EK and kept getting frustrated because i didn't know the stuff and i didn't get it. it'd been years since i took those science classes. After going through TBR, EK was a breeze. For questions i got wrong initially in TBR and had to find the answers when i read the explanation, i found that EK emphasized the same concepts and stated the facts and at times i'd go if i'd read EK before doing these passages, i'd have had these right. TBR goes in depth and is great for people with weak background or who need to learn the material. I think EK covers almost the same ground as TBR except you have to know the stuff already. If you go through TBR, EK is a great way to verify that you know and understand the concepts. I would go through TBR book at least twice for the gen chem and ochem. i took the mcat and everything i saw was covered in those books. i highly recommend them.

Thank you for the feedback!!
I started on EK cause I wanted to get a feel of the breadth of the material. Just doing a light read of EK and will jump on BR soon. BR just scared me off a little with its thickness but I've only heard good things about it. Chem is my weak spot so i'll definitely need the second read of BR.

i'm in too.. just started studying last week.. too bad i have 4 classes and 2 research labs.. finding time would be hard.. but i also quit my weekend job a couple of weeks ago..

im feeling a bit nervous already!
