In lieu of the other threads popping up, I thought it'd be good for those of us taking the test to identify ourselves 👍

I'm not planning on following a rigid study schedule until January, but I think I'm going to watch a single video off of wikipremed daily to lightly review.

Good luck to everyone... we will crush this exam..

I have heard this too, but then what the hell are they doing for 35 days? I feel like they still need to make some adjustments. It just would make no sense if they did not.

I really haven't done any research or anything on this, but in the guidebook it did say the curve was predetermined. However, I still think if the grading shows an overwhelming number of people doing poorly where the distribution deviates from a bell curve, then they need to adjust it. That's my opinion and I haven't read anything to support that.

Had a beer and a glass of bourbon tonight. Tomorrow is the theme parks and our rugby bar is closing up shop tomorrow. Owner is moving back to Hawaii, so it might be a looooong night 🙂

What's your bourbon?

all this **** starts to blend together, but PS was killer on this one. Bio and verbal were typical. I am hoping the curve is lenient on PS because there was really not enough time for that section.

I truly hope that the curve is as lenient as that of AAMC 11, where scoring 38-39 on the sciences would get you a 10.

This month long wait is going to be the worst. over it. I'm still offended at that killer BS passage, all that orgo and the entire PS section haha.

Thank you! I feel like I've been left out in the wind with how I felt on that one bio passage. I must have spent 20 minutes on it and I was still shaky about it! I feel like my chances of getting an MD worthy score or not rides on that one passage. Lol.

I know! I spent so much time on it too, This is the only time where I feel the best about verbal, I actually thought the passages were interesting. Im just hoping I didnt get lower than a 27 because I'd be worried about applying to DO schools with a lower score. They've upped their MCAT standards.

Damn it, just remembered a question and realizing how dumb I was because it was straight forward. Another one I remembered, I just don't know what answer I put down. I really wish I could just wipe it all out of my head.

On a note completely unrelated to me tanking the test today, when can we register for another date?

That convinced you didn't do well? I usually tank PS and verbal but I'm still going to wait and see if miracles happen. Then again, next would be a 3rd time and I've been told that's no good.

Sorry for the rant, I believe it's 2 days

Edit: and now I'm convinced I f'd up lol. This month will be an emotional roller coaster but ill try and make the best of it by keeping very busy.

Unfortunately I made the mistake of trying to study for the mcat while taking classes and it was a lot more difficult than I thought. I know that given the summer to focus on it I can do much better, so regardless of my 4/26 score I'm going to shoot for an August retake. Good luck to you man, I hope you rocked it 🙂

I think they should give a preliminary score when the test is over and make adjustments thereafter if needed.

agreed! I mean I am thinking of just signing up for a retake date... and then if I get 30+ cancelling it.. otherwise my new MCAT score will come too late, right?

I can apply and tell them that I am going to retake the MCAT. That is a good strategy right?

starting Monday... I am going to do at least one timed practice passage a day to keep my mind sharp for a retake... we can just go ahead and sign up right now no? I just don't want the slots to fill up... I really want this (as I am sure that we all do)... if I don't do MD or DO... maybe I will do PA... but I am just obsessed with scoring high on the MCAT and going on to be a primary care physician...

my mind like blocked half of it out... I am REALLY frustrated by the PS section... like I want to go over it.. re-do it so bad... I want the opportunity to at least learn from my mistakes and use it as a practice for my next MCAT if I have to retake it...

Sorry to hear that. Good luck! And thanks but the more and more I think about it, the more and more convinced i am I made more mistakes.

Are you applying this year?
Yeah. According to my advisor I'm better off taking it now so I can apply early, and retaking if needed.

Lets just hope for a very generous curve

How does it work. Lets say I get a 28 and want to apply early June. If I retake and get a better score do I just notify the schools or something? Does it even benefit to still apply early with a lower mcat just to retake and post a better score later?

On your application there is a box you check or something that says you are retaking, so I think even with a less than optimal score, schools will send you secondaries and move your application along. Then as soon as you get your retake score back, you update it in your application and schools with then decide whether to send ii, reject, ect.

At least this is my understanding of it, since my advisor basically said applying early with a mediocore score and retaking is much better than applying late with a better score

im so hungover man... on the flip side, get to workout and get a nice long massage later today...

people who PMed me your GT, ill get around to adding you all later tonight.

Man i really wish we could discuss the answers so I know how many I got wrong...😳

Haha nice. I get to do that today. My sleep schedule is still all screwed up. I went to bed at 1am so I was up for like 42 hours straight at one point. This doing nothing is hard work. Also, I wish I could permanently forgot any questions I remember. I keep stressing out over whether or not I chose the right answer. :/

I have biochem HW -_- And I am pitifully out of edible groceries and need to go shop. Last night's sleep was pure bliss though.

I think I rocked this.... maybe a 38 at the worst.... ROFL

- I'd be lucky if I got a 32 guys, we all had our - close our eyes and pick an answer moments haha

Went to bed at 10:30pm last night, I think, because I knew I was going to wake up around 6am. Drawbacks of waking up at 5am all week.

I don't know how you all can remember questions and answers. I have vague recollections of topics only and maybe a spattering of questions that I actually remember.

Its gonna be a long month. Do you guys think the PS curve will be more lenient than aamc 11? I already know I got at least 5 wrong..

I'm positive that I missed 6 on the PS. I'm also suspecting that I missed at least another 6. On BS, I know I missed 7 questions, and suspect I missed another 6. I'm OK with that as long as the curve is as lenient as that of aamc 11. If it's rough as aamc 10, then I'm screwed.

All this is speculation at this point. The likelihood that I scored 11 on sciences is as plausible as scoring 9...or even 8.

Yea these thoughts give me shudders. Its a retake for me and I really cant afford to mess up. May lady luck be on our side 🙂

I am almost convinced that the problem you guys mentioned earlier was on the 4/27 exam as well. There was one question where none of the answer choices were anywhere near what I got.

yea but most people can establish residency after one year of moving here...
I'm not willing to wait another year for a cheap(er) school. I'm 32 man, not going to get any younger! Which is why I took the test when I did. If I were younger, I would have taken more time studying for the test...but I forced myself into a schedule. I needed to apply this cycle.

Heck I'm 23 and I feel old!

Best of luck in this cycle!

As bad as our test seemed to be, I'm glad that I didn't take today's test. Everyone says verbal was a monster.

On the other side, I would have benefited from a physics-heavy passage. Oh well, no regrets. I'm content with what I had.

So Texas is not friendly to OOS'ers? I would love to go there. I'm from the East Coast.

Day 1. I already have nightmares. With every coming day I seem to remember more questions I got wrong 🙁

Also, are y'all applying this year?

Texas by law has to take 90% of their students from instate.

the 10% is first filled with OOS students who have relations to Texas (mother/father live there, former resident etc).

I know of 2 people who got in to Texas--but they had killer stats and very strong reasons for coming.

Does having 2 siblings and their families living there count as a good reason to go there? I have heard that even though we are OOS, TCOM and UTSA take a lot of Utah students

This pretty much sums up PS for me... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1367121745.072644.jpg

I personally do not feel those are strong reasons.

One girl from OOS, her whole family was moving to Texas--and she wanted to go to Medical School close to them. Strong.

Don't know the others story.

Having cousins is weak--brothers and sisters--you'd have to make a strong case. Generally 3.6+ and 33+ for OOS I think was recommended.

Best to contact schools and see!

I think I will do that. I have 3.78 cgpa and 3.6ish sgpa. Given how I feel about this MCAT, I know I have less chance at the MD schools, but I would hope that I could get into TCOM with a 28 or so.
