Hi guys,

How is the studying going for those of you taking it on arguably one of the worst days in American History? Finished content review yet? Any FL?

Just wanted to do this so we could keep each other motivated.

Ok now back to studying !!!!!!

Just rescheduled from Aug 23rd to September 11. I am with you guys here - lets do this! I am hoping to complete the 1001 series for each subject by September 2, and do 4-5 full length exams before the real deal. I am a retaker, so I have a good feel for timing and how the real test actually is (which is a lot different than any of the practice tests, so I am not putting so much emphasis on doing full lengths. Rather, I am doing as many practice problems as possible).

does anyone know if any spots are going to open up for the 9/11 test date? I am currently registered for the 8/23 exam, but I don't feel well-enough prepared.

So if anyone knows if any spots will open up soon it will be greatly appreciated!

You are allowed to register or reschedule your teat date 3 weeks prior to the exam.

How are you guys/ladies doing with practice test? My last practice test was 24 and I am ready to take another one this week after spending three weeks in my weakest subjects ( Organic and VR). I am hoping to get a 27+ on that next one.

So far I have improved on Ochem/Bio, gotten worse at Physics/Gchem, and stayed the same at Verbal, for a net 0 gain. But I feel more confident and can't wait to study the **** out of physics. 👍

I have been on TBR Physics for a couple of days, and no kidding it has been quite a struggle, just because of the fact it really kicks in, that feeling that this is it, its now or never - never the less its been a struggle, but a good struggle, ya digg? 😎

I plan on taking AAMC FL 3, in a week and a half by that time I will hopefully be done with content for all the sciences.

So now we are officially less than five weeks, and are approaching the one month line. As the MCAT approaches I keep telling myself and thinking to myself that this MCAT will be the last of its kind so, "I've got only one shot and am not going to miss my chance to blow, this opportunity comes once in a lifetime."

Good luck and good night, or you know, if you're on that late night MCAT grind 🙂

Eep! Just took my first practice test (AAMC #3) and scored a 36 (12VR, 10PS, 14BS). While I'm satisfied with the score, I know that test 3 is MUCH easier than the real thing. And even though the PS section didn't contain anything remotely difficult, I still messed up :/ Anyway, here's to the last month before the test date! Time to kick my butt into gear. I know we will all kick butt come 9/11 🙂

I've been using the TPR Hyperlearning and some of these passages got me going 😕😕 while some i'm like :idea:

I haven't taking a FL yet. I'm planning on my first one tomorrow. AAMC FL 3.

One more month to go! Crunch time !

I am theoretically all done with content as of right now. I'm planning on spending the next couple of days doing more practice passages from TPRH, and making sure I review those things I need to have down (read: hormones, equations, etc). I will be taking AAMC 3 on Sunday. I REALLY hope I hit 30! :xf:

ONE MORE MONTH TO GO, WE GOT THIS!!!!😎

TPR4 (10PS, 5VR, 10BS)....After one month studying VR intensively..I dont see any improvement. Very sad.....One more month to go...I am still gonna fight until I see that VR score increases to an 8+.

Took my first full length today:

AAMC3 (11PS, 8VR, 11BS). Broke a 30!

I know this is the easiest FL, but I'm happy to know that I'm not completely incompetent. About one more month. I have 8 more FL to burn. Let's do this, guys! 😀😀

75% done with content review. Reeeeally looking forward to rocking the BS section. Looks like all those god damned J of Neurosci / J of Neurotrauma / J of Neurochem articles I had to read and analyze for discussions at my research lab will come in handy. Def gonna thank my grad student mentor with a big basket of beer when I see her. PS...different story. Need a lot more memorization there.

Also...can't seem to break 11 on verbal, my last five full length verbal tests (mix of EK and TPRH) have been 11, and goddamnit I can't seem to finish them on time either, always finish 3-5 minutes overtime and it's frustrating as hell.

Gosh I love venting here, nobody else seems to understand,

"but I don't get it what makes it so hard?",

"oh stop complaining I'm sure you'll be fine, just study every subject a lot",

"hey let's kick it. cant, studying for mcat. next day: hey let's kick it."

YES! "Hey man come over. Can't have to study. Just take a few days off man."

hey again, 9/11'ers...

anyone feel hopeless/distressed? i don't want to postpone, because i'm not sure if i can do any better. i feel like my reading comprehension skills aren't very good for the time constraints, and i'm getting worried. my AAMC average is around 27 (i'm not getting anything lower than a 7), but i'm not sure if this will be competitive enough for med applications. i don't intend on going to a top-tier school...but still, 30ish seems to be the score to put your foot in. argh.

/rant

does anyone know where i can find the table that converts raw score to scaled score for aamc 3, or any?

I also have the conversion chart for 4-8. let me know if you need it

There's plenty of time to improve! Look back on your mistakes and find a pattern on what's keeping you back. Focus on that during the remaining month of studying. Getting a 27 shows you're a competent test-taker, and there's just one more moving part that you're missing to blow past the 30 mark. I'm sure you'll find that in the next 30 days 👍👍

Stay the course!

Thx! This is probably a really dumb question, but how are we supposed to interpret that table? It's obviously not by number of questions we got correct, however, it doesn't make since if it's by percent either...😳

I don't know have the updated one right now, but it should be something you can click on in the site with the exam. This is the old version, when there used to be more questions.

It is the questions you've answered correctly. There are 77 questions for PS and BS, and 60 for VR.

Hello fellow 9/11ers!

A update on my studying (as I sit here procrastinating studying by reading this thread):
Using EK's 10 week study program (added BR passages instead of EK 1001 after lecture 4 because I heard that BR's passages were closer to the real thing):

Bio: just finished lecture 5 (EK) and practice passages (every third or so one) from BR

Physics: just finished lecture 5 (EK) and BR practice passages (every third or so one)

GChem: just finished lecture 4 (EK), need to do practice passages

Ochem: really screwed for this one. Have only taken 1 semester of Ochem about 5 years ago and did well at the time but don't remember any of it. Working my way through EK but don't find it very helpful. Tried supplementing with "Ochem as a second language" which helped with basics but not nearly enough for MCAT. Might buy Chad's videos for this. Any suggestions?

Verbal: trying to do one verbal test from EK 101 per week (not working out so well as I can't bring myself to put the energy in for a whole exam)

So far, I'm about half way through content and this is probably way worse than others as I am an engineering grad and thus haven't taken a lot of the pre-reqs and those that I have, I did in highschool (I.B.) or first/second year university (which was 5 years ago). You'd think I'd be better in the physical sciences (being an engineer and all) but I'm not a mech E or a civ E so I'm on par with everyone who has taken the physics pre-req.

Haven't taken any FLs except the free AAMC #3 on which I got a 25 (poor indicator as I did this when I wasn't even sure if I wanted to go to med school and kept pausing the exam to give me more time as I didn't realize that time is a huge issue). I probably will take my first proper FL next weekend but don't want to use them up before content review is done.

Sorry for the long post! I tend to be verbose (particularly when procrastinating) :smack:

Save your money. Just watch freelance-teach and khan academy o-chem videos. They are enough for the MCAT. They're all I've used for studying and I've gotten pretty much 90% correct when doing passages, and most of the things I get wrong are just passage misreads. Otherwise, their content is solid.

Good luck!

EK orgo didn't make much sense to me. It left out a ton of things and I had trouble figuring out what was going on/ linking things together. I had a strong background in orgo but I couldn't place the reactions with what I'd learned so I couldn't figure out what to do with them. I ended up giving up on the book all together, at least for now, and I'm just going through Chad's videos. I think they're a lot more helpful, he groups things together well and explains them the way my profs did, so things are jogging my memory. You can also watch them on fastplay which is better for me. I tried to watch a Khan Academy video today for the first time and it was so painfully slow that I couldn't pay any attention. I think after I'm done with Chad's videos I'll go back through EK to make sure he covered everything we need to know and to get a different perspective on it though. If you learn better having something explained to you, then I think his videos are probably the best for that.

There is somewhat a big discrepancy between your TPR and AAMC scores. How do you explain that?

Is it OK to take a break from these books for two days? I have been studying for 3 months and I think my brain is tired... I have exhauted every single strategy in VR and my score in not gettting any better. Should I take a 2-day break and re-attack VR again for the remaining time?

T-4 weeks til judgement day. As much as I want the MCAT to be over, I really don't want to start school again =/ having the freedom of setting your own schedule is awesome.

Yeah, temp101, if you're feeling burnt out by verbal maybe clearing your head for a day or two w/o verbal will help. I can't say for sure, cause the only thing I do for verbal is one full length practice test every day before moving onto a science subject (well every 1.5 days, as I perform on a 36 hour daily schedule vs the "normal" circadian 24 hour schedule). How's your verbal improvement btw?

Is anyone planning to do a no show if they get a good score from a earlier test? I am just wondering what ate the chances of seats opening up which is full right now, and all the other centers in my province...

I honestly cannot, which is why I talked to my instructors at TPR because I felt that it may have been a fluke. I'll have to take more aamcs and see if my other tests fall in that range. I'm expecting my real verbal score to be lower so I gotta get my PS much higher to compensate.

I do better doing VR in the books (EK, TPRH) than when I do FL...Averaging 7-8 in EK101.

Just keep checking mate! I was able to snag a September 1st seat by continually checking every day/night. One will eventually open up, just keep studying and hope for the best 👍

I'm waiting for the same thing. At the moment, waiting for a spot in my province to open up but currently registered to write in the U.S. (10 hour drive to the nearest test center 🙁).

i know writing is the last portion i should be worrying about, but i haven't taken an argument-style writing course in 2 years.

i have a TPR grader, but not for AAMC6. i was wondering if any of you are interested in grading my essays (or know of any alive threads). they are horrible ... so please feel free to advise. because i suck at writing under timed conditions, some ideas may be incomplete, so you should factor that into my score.

Is anyone else here following SN2ed's schedule? I've been following it pretty strictly (even downloaded the iCal! lol) but I'm finding that I'm starting to forget bits of info that I learned in the beginning. I think it's time to start making flashcards or something for review :/

Anyway just took AAMC 4, got a 35 (11VR, 11BS, 13PS). I had no idea that my scores would fluctuate so much based on the content of the passage! Hopefully I get stuff that I'm really solid with come test day...

Ughh got a migrane and a cold in the middle of taking a FL haha. took a small break yesterday... gonna cut down on hours today as well... 😴😴😴

Hey guys!
I moved from Sept. 1st to 11th.
I could use the extra days!
I am too scared to take another full length because last time I did reaaaaallly bad!
Anyway....have any of you done.the AAMC assessment?
I mean I am not getting 100% but I feel like they are not as bad as I thought they would be. I actually know what they are talking about so far. Only done Ochem and working Chem now.
Any input?

Hey guys, just did my very first FL (aamc #3) and got a 26 (11/5/10) :[

....do you guys think its still possible to get a 32+ by sept 11? :\ I feel like ****...

Idk why I did so badly in verbal :/ I usually averaged 9 in EK 101 and TPRH...

Yes , it's possible but you got to work on VR. I have the same issue...I am doing OK in science but cant seem to break 7+ in VR.

Thanks for the encouraging words, I guess I was a bit nervous when I came to the verbal section since it was my first FL and first time doing it on a comp

So when you guys say you did AAMC FL#X, does that mean you did the CBT one or the actual FL? Like, the CBTs have less questions (50s for sciences and 40 for VR) and the FLs have more questions (like 70s). So I was wondering which tests are people taking?

P.S. I just took AAMC 4 and did decent on it so I was wondering if it's a good indicator or if it's one of the easier AAMCs? I obviously don't want to get overconfident...

Thanks!

Yes! It is possible! YOU ARE MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN CINDERELLA! YOU SMELL LIKE PINE NEEDLES, AND HAVE A FACE LIKE SUNSHINE! I believe in you!

EDIT: Just finished AAMC #5 in the wee hours. Burning the midnight oil to get this done and keep myself on track. Got a 12PS, 13VR, 13BS (38 composite), which was so unexpected since the VR made me go WTF. Anyway I know I'm kinda counting my chickens before they hatch, but I'm REALLY glad I followed SN2ed's plan from the beginning. Having not taken physics since AP my senior year of HS, I thought I'd bomb the PS sections of the test, but I'm staying alive so far 🙂

Are we writing an entirely different test compared with those from august? i wonder if the september ones will also have heavy emphasis on experimental bio.. 😕
