The Official 9/2/10 MCAT Club!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm signed up for this date as well 🙂

Gettin' my scores back from the 7/16 exam in about a week and a half. Hoping I'll be content with my scores so I won't have to take the 9/2. Lets see what happens.

As for now....28 daysssssss until we kick butt!!!! 👍

Finally feel ready to take this stupid test. Hopefully it goes well!!!!! Any retakers/first timers? I took it last year and voided.. hopefully it won't come to that this time around🙂

Good luck to all!!

i'm a retester! i got mono the week before the july 8th mcat 🙁 took it anyways and it did not quite go as well as I planned obviously. still have mono, but hopefully i'll be better come september. studying is quite challenging when I can basically still fall asleep on cue.

Hello everybody! I'm sort of a retaker...couldn't find my testing site on Friday...had to reschedule.

I'm sorry about your mono daisy, hope it improves!!

is it okay to take the MCAT this late and still apply this cycle?

retaker here

signed up a bit late for this one, gotta drive about 2 hrs at 5:30am to get there :O

hope you all do well, studying for this starts off fun, then it just drags on, then it starts creeping into your dreams, and finally, it takes over your life in the last few weeks

i seriously dreamt my smartass friend got a regrade on his mcat and it went from a 36 to a 39, i woke up pretty jealous haha

Closing my eyes at night physics formulas start popping up.

I'm having a horrible time studying, after I missed my appt, before which I had "checked out", thinking I was done studying. Now I can't force myself to study anymore. I'm tired ... !!

hi dr. nick,

look at the positive side, youre extremely well prepared? haha

if youre burned out, just take a day off to go do something mcat unrelated, it should help more than it hurts (rather than sitting their staring at the comp, wishing you were do something else)

Dr. Nick...ha ha, maybe when I get graduated from the carribean.

Yeah I'm sick of studying, reading, need a reboot before school starts back.

That's bad about your 5:30 am departure. You should do okay. I took the PCAT a few years ago and drove a little over 2 hours as well...it turned out good.

How's it going for you guys?

I took the 07/08 and did horrible on verbal (5) and Bio (8) and Physics (9)...so I'm hoping for a better turn out this time.

WHat are you guys doing in the last 2 weeks?

I hope this will be my last time taking this and we all do well. I am working on EK 101 passages now.

i feel your pain, i hate verbal with a passion

getting pretty tired, just doing a cbt a day and reviewing content

howre you spending the last week or so?

I'm going to start doing CBT's on Monday because I have so much content review today. I just got off of work and I'm going to do the EK101.

We can do this guys, we just have to Focus and plan well for the day! I'll pray for all of us.

My sciences are getting better, although I feel kinda scared for some Gchem sections and a few physics concepts.

Good luck guys!

I seriously hate verbal! 🙁

Physical science concepts are kinda getting mixed up in my head too! 🙁

How's everyone doing?

I've been doing A LOT of verbal since my last MCAT disaster and I'm pretty confident I can now score a 9 or better...just gotta stay focused and keep my eye on the prize.

I wish I could say the same...honestly, my verbal is deplorable, but I am improving gradually.

im cracking 10s and 11s for verbal on the aamc's but ive already taken them (and remember some of the passages) so the scores are inflated

any retakers retaking the aamcs practice exams? im wondering how much the verbal is inflated haha

consistently hitting 9s on EK, i hate verbal soooo much, hopefully ill be able to pull a 10 on the real thing

Verbal.... I've gotten 11, 9, 14, 11, 12 in the past four days... it's driving me nuts! (Especially when I used to consistently score 12s)
I was wondering how many practice tests you guys have been doing? I've been trying to do one every other day but I'm not sure if it's a good idea for the last week or if I should try and relax a bit more? I did one a couple days, scored a 28, flipped out, ate dinner, wrote another one and scored a 35 so I just don't know what to think. 🙁

14 on verbal, thats crazy haha
even your lowest with the 9 isnt too bad

your range is pretty huge though, 28-35
my range is around 1-3 points between the aamc tests

for the last week, im just gonna keep doing cbts, done about 15 of them so far

gonna spend the day before to relax and do nothing mcat related, hopefully recharge for the test

I'm averaging a 28 on FLs right now with my score increasing on each one. Got a 29 on AAMC 8 last week. I took AAMC 3 a few days before it and got a 35.. but I had taken AAMC 3 in May right before I started studying. So whether you're conscious of the fact that you slightly remember things or not, it's definitely there. That's in addition to the fact that AAMC is generally regarded as the easiest of the practice exams.

oh and.. anybody else not done too much studying in the last week? I feel like **** and that might cost me. Regretting taking it so late though becaues I've done nothing all summer besides study and work and now my semester is about to start.

Ya, I haven't studied too much the past week because I'm still not feeling the greatest so I totally understand how you feel RUc10. Starting to wonder whether this retake is even going to make a difference! Worth a shot at least I guess 🙂

What time do you plan on arriving if you want to start early? Like 7:15 or something.

tima...I took it in July, got there at 7:05, and proceeded to sit around until they let me start AFTER 8:30am. It was ridiculous. Call your testing center. Mine didn't even open the doors to the test room until 7:30am then took us in 1 and a time for the next hour and a half basically.

Guys should I even do verbal anymore? Man I can't believe this section! I did fine on the Physics and Bio sections today, but verbal creamed me!

I think I'm just going to give myself time to relax and just abandon verbal attempts at this stage.

I'm gonna get to test center at 7:45 so that way I'm fully awake when I start the test

Good luck guys..I hope we all rock it!

I'm on my break from doing AAMC FL 10... PS made me really sad. This was supposed to be my confidence boost!!

rls303, maybe don't do the verbal practice per se (that might stress you out), but why don't you just do some reading? Pick up the Economist or the NYT and skim articles - you'll get practice for Verbal and also maybe come across some topics for your essays 😛

I was gonna get to my testing center at 7:15 but if it's not gonna be open... bleh I dunno.

haha i just finished aamc10

seemed like a harder curve? i just tried my hand at writing the essays during the test for the first time, wow, i cannot write, i would give myself a k

i guess ill spend today working on trying to form a main idea and write clearly, other than that, gluck everyone! hope we all get the scores we're aiming for!

its finally here, nothing else to do now but believe that thee amount of time we put in will pay off

I thought the curve was similar to the other ones; I've done 3, 7 and 8 before this one. I ended up with 12/14/11 on AAMC 10. Kind of disappointed with Bio - I thought I was kicking that section's ass. Either way, this is 3pts higher than what I usually get - maybe the test is finally clicking 😛

Question: how much do all y'all usually write for the essays? I tend to have something between 600-800 words... Not sure if that's too long or too short or just right. I usually finish 5-10 min early so I can definitely add if it's necessary... Any opinions?

wow killer score, yeh i actually scored around my average on aamc10

i thought i was killing it in bio too but ended up pretty deflated and ps i thought i was gonna get sub 10 but was my best

just goes to show, dont expect anything from your scores until you see them

as for essays, well i shouldnt be given out any advice for essays haha

just follow what the prep books say?

Hey everyone,
I'm taking the test on Thurs, Sept 2 and I'm slightly worried about my physical sci since it doesn't seem to want to move (9). Should I just review physics/gchem or take another test?

Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Yeah the curve on the verbal section! Sheeesh I only missed three questions and got a 12! Normally I can miss 4/5 and get a 13! All the questions I missed were on the last passage too, I guess I had just tuned out by that point haha.

Last day of studying! 🙂 yaaaaay!

I found that I was able to take a far more educated guess on the PS section if I had to by making sure I had the formulas down AND the relationships between them (i.e. if you know P=IV and V=IR then P=RI^2). If I were you, I'd spend this evening going over and memorizing them (make flashcards if you can) - http://www.prep101.com/mcat/ES_MCATPhysics.pdf has a good list of the ones you should know.

If you come out of the test thinking you did eh, I'd suggest signing up for another test - but the thing is, you're already signed up for this one, and you've already studied, so just do it! You might do better than you think, and you'll at least have the extra practice. Maybe taking it will help you identify where exactly your weakness is in PS, too.

My friend was sitting the LSAT and was freaking out that she didn't do enough - I told her to go for it, and she ended up scoring 92nd percentile (this was her retake after getting 82nd her first time around). Granted, she was vacillating between cancelling her score and not after coming out of the room... but still 😛

Currently, trying to decide if I should take another ptest (AAMC 9) in a non-timed setting, just to get even more used to the phrasing and such, or go over formulae and flash cards. I think I'm gonna stick with the latter so I don't dish out another $35....

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely check out the economist just as a relaxing read to perhaps get some more mental practice.

I just finished AAMC 9, I got a 9 on Bio and 9 on Physics!

But I did better on 10....oh well done with practice tests....just gonna review some formulas and then gonna relax.

Has anyone done practice tests besides AAMC? I took those all before my july test and found them to be very poor predictors for the actual thing.. and for multiple other people I know who are all now restudying. Anyone do Kaplan? I've been doing just the PS and BS, not verbal..and have been getting 10-11s consistently on all of those (Kaplan 5-9). No idea what to think. I wish there were more predictive practice tests out there!

I've been doing Kaplan as well as AAMC and I agree they have different testing styles. Kaplan tests are more difficult for sure, but they have such a ridiculous scoring scale that it makes it seem not so bad. I got a 35 on my last Kaplan test and a 33 on my last AAMC. What I've been doing is taking the Kaplan tests but then taking my raw scores and grading them on the scale of AAMC test 10, which would for example turn my 35 into a 32. Even if that seems a little harsh I figure better to too hard than too easy?

Hi guys,
So what time are you all going to sleep? I'm trying to sleep around 11ish, but I just can't manage to do so!

I've been bringing my wake-up time back from 9/10am to 730, then 7, then 630 for the past week... and the last two days, I started getting into bed between 930 and 10 (yes, I know, I feel like i'm 8...). I figure that if I can't fall asleep until two hours after I get into bed due to nerves tonight, it's better to get into bed a little earlier just in case... Plus, I'm doing nothing MCAT related today (except for going over orgo and PS flashcards superfast) so I don't need to be up late anyway. 😛

uh oh guys. I registered with my first and last name, but all my IDs have my first, middle, and last names! can I still take the MCAT?

Im freaking out!

hmm...I would try calling AAMC or the testing center to make sure, but I don't think it would be a problem. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, what are you guys eating tonight and tomorrow morning?

I'm just reading the economist right now and trying to fine tune essays in my head lol

Bleh, I'm starting to freak myself out. I need to stop reading these forums. My last AAMC practice test should have been a confidence boost but now I'm just freaking out I'm going to score a 27 because of what others have scored on their actual tests... bah 🙁

Gotta think happy. Tomorrow at this time, I'll be drinking Caesars with my girlfriends tomorrow and celebrating the damn end of the MCATs. Friday, I'm back in NYC, reunited with my boyfriend and ready to start my senior year of university!

Tomorrow morning i'm eating eggos... I have my break snack pack packed (red bull, water, granola bars, and bananas) - I know I'm not going to eat it all but I might as well have it just in case!

you really should chill, if that aamc 10 test was what you were averaging, im willing to beat you're gonna kill it tomorrow:meanie:

So yea.. took AAMC 10 this morning.. breakdown was a 8/8/10. Definitely not a confidence booster before the test. That being said, I try to see a little positive in it in that I missed the final 2 passages of both PS and VR. This should be a reminder that I can't stall on questions. I think I'm going to drink coffee before the exam and bring some for after verbal. I felt a little sluggish today, hopefully I don't regret the decision though.

Good luck everyone.

alrite im going to sleep, gnight and gluck!

p.s. remember to bring a valid id
p.s.s. remember to kick some ass 😀
