Oh yeah, I had that one too.
So Acid Rain, British Government, Meteor extinction, Science v Tech, business v ethics... and?
Honestly verbal was so bad that I've blacked it out... like a near death experience or something.

Hahah first time I've been able to laugh since that horrible experience yesterday. I felt the EXACT SAME way during verbal and although it's not funny at all the way you worded that was so perfect. Haha AHHHHH here's to hoping we did better on verbal than we think!...

I remember now what was the missing VR passage. It was about the influence of Buddhism/Hinduism on Christianity.

BTW, would one's writing scores drop significantly because of one mis-spelling and an unfinished sentence?

guys there's no such thing as experimental passages
there are experimental questions
I don't think it would be logical to just cancel onw whole passage that a student spent a minimum of 5 min reading and another 5 min answering its questions
They could just cancel some questions in more than one passage

To compensate for the fact that students got different passages, they would make different curves for every set

Ohh I had that one too. And about the writing score, I don't think errors like that would make a significant difference at all, they mainly care about how well your argument is formed/supported etc.

They do care about spelling and grammar, but if your errors are limited like as you say then I don't think it will count against you much.

I cant remember the meteorite passage at all but double checked that every question was complete. what was it about?

Every essay is corrected twice by a reader and the computer:
the reader checks the tasks and quality of ideas and the computrer checks for spelling and sentence structure

VR: 1- sources of sulfur responsible for acid rain
2- evolution of british governmant
3- differences between the scientific and technological approaches
4- difference between governance and management
5- the effects of culture on science
6- management clashing with ethics
7- Buddhism Christianity

i think this is what my vr section looked like

Oh, then the replacement of the meteorite passage for yours would be the governance/management passage. I didn't get the latter.

So those were the two experimental passages I guess. But then, as mod02 said, they may have different curves.

I don't know exactly what is deemed "MCAT Content", but we agreed not to discuss it orally, in writing, or through the internet. Be careful not to post too much.

we can talk about things in general terms as long as it doesnt make it easier for future test takers to answer questions

thanks for the reminder of buddhism/india's effect on christianity, i couldnt remember the last one and that was driving me crazy

i had the exact same vr section as you leptin

Do the AAMC people specify exactly how the experimental items are incorporated anywhere? I feel like if some people get passages that others don't, how can they pick and choose within the passage which questions are experimental and which aren't?

Eh. I guess what does it matter.. either I did well or I didn't and whether or not the questions I'm hoping are experimental actually are or not prob won't make a difference in the end.

Hmm, I wonder why they would want to do that. Isn't it easier to give everyone the same set of questions with the same experimental passages and score them with the same curve? They would still get whatever statistics they want out of those experimental questions.

So the likely reason they may want to give different experimental passages is to test a couple of them at one go. I am not sure, but selectively picking out questions from different passages to serve as experimental questions doesn't sound like a robust method to gauge the suitability of a stand-alone passage.

PS: Thanks for answering my other query.

I hope you guys have floating IP's because the mod's are about to start sprinkling some account holds around these parts (including your "real" account, guy with 3 posts). Happens in every MCAT date thread...

First, this mcat is considered challenging...

PS: 1- drivers with friction and momentum
2- polarization of light
...

Here's a question to those that wrote the exam yesterday...

Did you find that the physical sciences and the biological sciences sections were mostly based on the passages?

If you feel that it was brutal, was it because you needed more content review? Or just more practice doing passages and tests?

I'd love to hear some input, because I know someone who got their score back recently, and studied for all of 2 weeks, and hit a 37, with a 13 in verbal... His 2 cents were that it was more of a logic game, you had to be able to read, interpret and resynthesize information from all the garble they presented you with.

Hope everyone gets the scores they want!

Sooo I know people generally come out of the exam not feeling confident but I'm pretty sure that exam was crazy.

Physics - Didn't finish on time. Felt like an idiot because I realized I was running out of time so I was only reading the questions stems and answers for the last passage. I had 10 seconds left on the second to last question and I could of swore I had enough time to at least fill in an answer for the last but when I looked at the question I had ran out of time so thats 1 definite wrong.

Verbal - Didn't think it was too bad... passages were very long.. This I was running out of time on the last passage here as well.

Bio - Seemed not bad besides 2 passages. 1 can't remember what it was, I think it was the third or the 4th and it's what killed me because I took forever trying to comprehend the passage. Then the next was the genetics one I believe. I was running out of time.

Also noticed that every time I took a break and got back my screen would say that time had ran out... I don't think that was the case though. Oh well.. hopefully I'll get super lucky in 30 days.

Yeah, that test was really difficult.. i think probably harder than the worst AAMC i had, which was #8. PS got to last problem, and ran out of time, even though it was some easy half life problem.. UGH.

VR was just a LOT harder than all the AAMCs.. anyone else feel the same?

BS was okay, but i'm pretty sure at least 2 of the passages were really difficult..

probably will retake..

the more i think about it the worse i think i did on bio 🙁🙁 i felt like the questions were all very passage based. it was like verbal all over again. i was pretty unsure about like almost half of the bio section... and pretty sure i missed at least two questions from that cfc/bacteria passage. praying for a realllly generous curve in bio. darrrnnn hopefully i dont have to retake again

Miscalculated time on physics for some reason i felt like i would be finished when i reached question 42. I had about 7 minutes to do 42-52 which was probably enough time but it caused a lot of panic

Agree. Time was racing when I took the PS, I got the "1/2 time use warning" when I was on like #20 (if not 18-19). Caused me to rush throughout the entire remainder of the exam, including essays. Even on essays I ran out of time!

One thing I underestimated was being under the test-day stress and how quickly the minutes pass during the exam. I never had a timing issue on practices, but I did yesterday. Of course it was my first attempt, maybe next time, if needed, it won't be so bad.

Anyways, I have read other forums with test takers venting just after taking the MCAT and this 9/2 one looks like one of the harder exams, so maybe the "curve" will allow us to miss a few more questions, I don't really know how the system works. Good luck everyone, I hope we all earned what we needed!

I wasn't sure if the test was hard because I didn't do well at all during the practice tests. I can say that my writing was a disaster and I'm not hoping too much on the verbal. I definately think that the verbal is much longer than the practice test. But I was not surprise after taking that much EK verbal practice.

I found that the time length wasn't that gruelling at all. I was only struggling to answer all the questions and felt that I didn't have enough time, rather than thinking that the test is too long. When I reach the bio sec, I almost zoned out.

Anyway, I'm crossing my fingers and good luck all.

yeah i feel ya.. a retake is just going to be ridiculous. looks like a change in strategies is in order?

whatever.. i'll just fill out my secondaries whether or not i get a ****ty score

That was just a practice dream, the more you take the higher your score goes... by the end of 30 days you'll have a score of 40 😛

Just thought I'd post as I have began checking mcat thx for my score. Oct 5th seems so far away. Hoping that they upload them sooner...

I've been checking too but even though I know it's pointless... From what I've been reading on the threads they wait till last possible second to put up the scores, I don't think they've ever released them early.. have they?

These 6 days are gonna take forever! ....

I feel like this thread has the fewest responses/views of all the other MCAT threads.. wonder if that's a good or bad thing

Wow...I noticed and wondered the same thing.

I was hoping it would be good and allow quicker scoring/release of our scores. I talked to my friend who took it in June and he said it is released on the day posted on the website, makes me think it is programmed to release it then, even if the tests are graded.

I hope we did good!

Hey guys,
It is hard to believe that it has been one month since we took the exam...feels like it was yesterday.

I'm praying and wishing that we all get a great score. Just a few more days till we find out.

Good luck guys!

has anyone gotten their score yet? what have people heard is a good time to start checking THx? about 2pm est on the 5th? do they ever post early?

I haven't.. from all the threads I've seen, they haven't once posted them early. I just went to double check the score release schedule and it's all updated to the 2011 schedule so I guess the 2010 one can't be viewed anymore?

2 more days....!!

I am hoping the sept 2 results come tomorrow instead of tuesday. It's doubtful, but ya never know!

Yeah, it should be 30 days exact...Oct 2 being a Sat, they should at least post on Monday...why wait till Tuesday???? wish i could sleep till then

and i've got this ocd worry that i accidentally voided...let's hope not

Being that all this year's exam dates have passed.. and having studied all summer, if that happened to me I would probably go into an extreme state of depression and not want to re-take. I wonder if anyone has ever done that.

I stared at the screen for over a minute trying to burn the image in my mind to convince myself that I had not accidentally selected void. I'm still not 100% sure...

I have been trying to do anything and everything just to take my mind off the mcat but its IMPOSSIBLE!!!

oh my gosh... i also have that ocd panic that I hit void. what would show up if we had done that? do you all really think they are going up tomorrow!?!! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!! i really hope so!
