****The Official UConn c/o 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

Just got an email saying that they received my app and will review completed applications. Cool!

I didn't get an email from them yet =(

Just received an interview invite via email! 🙂

Are you guys in-state or at least from New England? Nothing here, applied first batch.

A little late to the game, but just received an email that my app is complete.

4th Batch.

Did you guys look at the 2017 interview thread...see if any first batchers got interviews later...just an idea

I took a look and it doesn't seem to have much info before late august, except a facebook group. One person to got an interview at the end of august was in the 8th batch. That's all I could find.

Hmmm I don't know then...I know that some schools do this...they will give out interviews to those who they agree right away on and then for those who qualify but they aren't 100% sure on they will put aside=not a rejection yet...and then they will look at them again later on and see if they all agree for an interview invite then

Are you positive they send out their interview invites all at once?

I'm not sure of this, but it does seem that if they've sent out interview invites to SOME people who were in the first batch, they'd have looked at all of the first-batchers.

I don't think there's any way I could fall below their minimums, though. I have 600+ hours of volunteer experience, 100+ hours of dental shadowing, and 800+ hours of work experience. Oh well. This is a great school, and I am genuinely happy for those who have been invited! Congratulations again! 🙂

I wouldn't be so quick to write it off that you won't be getting interviewed. I'm sure that Interviews come in waves and may contain people from different batches. Patience my friend 🙂

Thanks, xatlasb! This has made me nervous, I'll admit, but I'm still hopeful!

Random insight: it seems like everyone invited is from the northeast. (At least from the info I've been able to find.)

Anybody had any contact with admissions officers there? I wonder if they respond to emails.

hm, possibly. where are you from glimmer?

You might be right. Either case im pretty sure they are gonna give you an interview at some point. Can't imagine that they wouldn't.

I got invited and I'm from southern Virginia- but I did read somewhere that they do give preference to people from the northeast. Not sure how accurate that is though since I can't even remember the source. But stay hopeful!!! It's still really early 🙂

They say they prefer New Englanders on their website, so you're right!

Surely, though, there are some SDN folks that applied from other parts of the country, and we haven't heard anything from other parts of the US.

I'm just speculating, though. Who knows! I wonder where park1234 is from.

I'm going with NJ. Lives there (perm resident) and went to Rutgers. So the northeast theory holds true for now. It makes sense, but I'm sure someone from across the country is going to drop in any minute and crush it.

App submitted 7/11, mailed 7/19, completed 7/22, interview invite just today. From Jersey.

I was referring to the northeast theory.

VA just doesn't have that crushing blow to the theory like say, Washington or New Mexico. But I've been in meetings with my team all day and we are leaning towards a radial theory. Invites are all within a 600 miles radius from the school. Invites will then go to 800 miles, 1,000 miles, and then unleashed to all distances. Right before we broke for dinner, another concept was introduced by the vice chair: the dedicated interview offer phone in admissions has a broken number, so only those without that number are being called right now.

Well that blows.

From my house to UConn is 612 miles.

PHEW. Wutchu tryna do, bobDAbuilder, crush my dreams?!

I thought we were saying they had already sent them out in a 600 mile radius (since they've already sent some out). Thus, if I was within the 600 miles and didn't get an invite, it meant I didn't make the cut. Since I'm NOT within... I still have hope for the 800 mile radius. You follow? LOL! 😀

Or maybe I am just totally confused. Definite possibility!

I don't agree with hacking, but Stan in IT was able to briefly gain access to UConn's admissions and run a quick query before being detected. Thought I'd share.

even if they don't pick you for an interview the first wave, they can always look back at your application later on and reconsider.

I know. I honestly do think that they are sending them out to nearby folks and will then move further out later--jeffity and I are sort of kidding, but not really. On SDN, we have tons of high-stat applicants that aren't from the east coast area and none of them have been given an interview at UConn that we know about. UConn is known, at least to some extent, as being "OOS friendly" for people with relatively high stats. I am sure more good applicants have applied from areas a long way away. Other than being a great school, UConn also allows students to switch to in-state residency after the first year, which makes it highly appealing to many applicants.

However, I am speculating. Maybe this is just wishful thinking and I will eat my words later. 🙂 Now, when I hear about someone long-distance getting an interview, I will resign myself to my fate! 😉
