****The Official UConn c/o 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

does anyone know of any good links with helpful information on how to prepare for the interview? also, any info on what UConn's interviewing process is like? Thank you!

Mind me asking where you're from? Curious how the proximity theory pans out 😛

Ironically, he fits it--LOL!

However, other folks on SDN have said the "know people (in real life)" who aren't from the the NE who have interviews.

WHUTEV. If they don't want me, I shall take my tuition money ELSEWHERE!

Where are you from?

Thought I would chime in and say that I'm from the west coast and got an interview about 3 weeks ago. Good luck to everyone and see you at the interview!

Congrats!! When did you schedule your interview for??

When were you guys complete for UCONN? I was complete around July 24th, but I haven't heard anything.

I got an email saying I was complete but I haven't heard anything else.

Since the first round of invites were sent out about a month ago, this thread has been eerily quiet... any new updates? 🙂

I'm from Missouri and I got an invitation to interview on July 22 for September - seems like everyone else is from the northeast though so I have no idea!

Can people who have interviews say when they were complete for UCONN?

is this school still giving out interviews?

You realize you are asking other applicants whether UConn is still giving out interviews. Do you actually expect them to know? If you're that curious, call the admissions office directly and find out, as no one on this site has the answer to that question.

im asking b cuz alot of students tend to call so i thought maybe someone had already called

They're still sending out interview requests. I just got mine a few days ago. I applied kind of late (submitted aadsas on Aug 15th, I think) and am from the NE area, if that gives you any sort of context.

Obviously I don't know when you applied/what kinds of applicants they request interviews from ect ect but just thought I'd pop in to say that they are still sending them out.

Hi all, anyone interview yet? I wanted to know, what's the interview like? What type of questions do they ask? Any experiences would be great. Thank you!

Good luck, nardim!
This thread has been a ghost thread, guys. It seems like they have sent out very few interviews within the last month or so, at least not to SDNers. Does anyone know if they have sent out hard rejections yet?

I'm so excited to finally get to reply to this thread! I scheduled my interview for November 8th! SO excited!!! 😀

if anyone has had an interview can you please let us know what it is like? ... thank you and good luck to everyone for this cycle!

When I had my interview about 2 weeks ago they mentioned that they were finishing out OOS students and moving to focus just on in-state and in-region students.

I wish they'd go ahead and give me a hard rejection. I'd like to be able to call and ask what I could have done to be a better applicant.

Had my interview and they focused a lot on extracurriculars and volunteer hours. Interviewer said they literally reject 25 AA kids with 4.0 sgpa because they have little to no extracurriculars. All interviews done by December as well which is unique. 160 interviews, 80 acceptances with about a 50% yield to get the 40 person class.

I have over 600 hours of volunteer work, and even more paid work hours.. Ah, oh well! 🙂

Your stats are amazing though...are you instate at any other schools?? Maybe they think you will accept an instate offer somewhere else?

Well, I called and asked them if I could find out what I could do to make my application better. They said my application was "on hold" and that they were waiting to "compare my competitiveness to the applicant pool." They said I should hear something between now and mid-December.

... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Guys, I just don't understand this response. I have put painstaking effort and time into EVERY part of my application. I'm certainly not perfect, but man, did I not try my hardest in everything I did to prepare for DS. It's one thing to not like something with my ECs or PS, and maybe that's the case, but I don't really don't see where my numerical stats are lacking. I have nearly a 4.0 and a 26AA/30TS on the DAT. Your stats, I've always heard, are what get you an interview. Oh well. I was really looking for a concrete answer, but I guess I'll have to wait on that.

Hey glimmer

Sorry to hear that. I haven't heard from UCONN also. I have decent stats (not nearly as great as yours), so I feel you.

Hopefully they will come with a decision. I'd like to have a definite answer sooner rather than later.

Eh, did you really expect something other than a boilerplate response? I think closer to the end of the cycle, if the result is still the same, you might be able to conjure a more candid discussion of your application. That said, if you're concerned with the # of interviews you have, why don't you apply to more schools? 🙂

Eh, I honestly am very happy with the two interviews that I have and am hopeful that at least one of them will result in an acceptance. 🙂 I can't really complain about how things are going, and that's not my intention. However, I am always interested in knowing what I can do to be better, which is why I called! I'm sure I will find out eventually.

I did think that Ms. Avolt would at least look at my application before giving me a response, but I'm not really sure that she did. I also still haven't given up hope that my state schools might notice me, even though I'm about 99.99% sure that I won't end up with an invite from UConn. 🙂 This process has definitely been full of surprises, but I have faith that it will all work out how it needs to. I am already extremely fortunate as things sit currently.

That's a great perspective. I know that everything does happen for a reason. Maybe it has happened to continue to build you as a person for something bigger and better. That goes for all the people waiting for interviews/acceptances. It is a moment to reflect and ponder. It is also a moment to embrace the quality of life we have lived and will be living throughout our future studies. It is of course frustrating as I am also in the same boat but it will all work out in the end for the best.

Sorry to hear that...On a slightly funnier note....Apparently dental schools like "better" looking individuals...LOL that was meant as a joke...though perhaps there's some .00000001% merit to it. I think if I don't get an invite from somewhere, I'll just blame it on that hahaha! Lighten up! The cycle's still young.

^And, not to seem callous, but I have "high stats" as well, and interviewers have openly praised my PS, and ECs, but I only heard back from a few schools thus far, despite submitting in mid-July. Naturally, more interviews would be nice, but I have faith what's coming is what'll make me stronger, God-Willing.

if anyone has had an interview can you please let us know what it is like? ... thank you and good luck to everyone for this cycle!

I interviewed last year in October & since then it seems they have changed the style of the interview a little bit.

My interview last year was with two faculty members & the style caught me off guard. There was a decent amount of good cop/back cop going on. Also, I was asked if I had brought in any examples of work I had done with my hands. Luckily I had brought a few pictures of things that I had made with my hands. Also, often times they would ask me a question & ask another question before I was done answering the 1st question which again threw me off a little. Keep in mind however some of my classmates said their interviews were mostly conversational so I guess it depends on who you get.

In terms of changes implemented this year, I believe the 1st years are now also being interviewed by upperclass man after lunch before being interviewed by the faculty members.

Good luck to you all & hopefully I will see some of you here next year!

Hey guys,

I didn't get the official e-mail yet, but I did just get a change on my AADSAS portal to "Invited for Interview" over the weekend. Hopefully, that means I'll get an official e-mail or something soon?

I'm OOS btw.

Hi, I'm a third year student at UConn and figured I'd dispel a few rumors/errors. As for the interview, nothing has really changed - prospective students meet with current students over lunch but that meething has no bearing on your interview. Its an informal discussion over lunch for you to ask current students questions you wouldn't otherwise feel comfortable asking faculty members you come into contact with.

Also, even if you do get placed on a wait list after the whole interview process, don't be discouraged. There were at least 4 students in my class selected off of the wait list later in the spring (March-April time frame).

I was accepted to the class of 2018!

Interviewed Oct. 18th Accepted Oct. 24th
I'm OOS, from New York

Has anyone been rejected? Still waiting for it.

My AADSAS just changed today to "check back on December 2"
I already interviewed- this happen to anyone else?? I assume decisions have been made... scaryyy

Yep! Got the same thing. Exciting!

😱 mine still says invited for interview it hasn't changed!! freaking out......

mine changed yesterday too!!!! don't know what to expect lol

Has anyone that interviewed in November had their AADSAS status changed? I interviewed early November but it still says 'invited for interview'... I'm wondering if maybe they submit the results in the order in which we interviewed, and it won't change until they submit their decision. I'm so anxious!!

I interviewed November 1st and it still says "Invited for Interview" for me. I asked around and they said it's kind of random who they change statuses for and who they don't. So hang tight and don't stress as much

Thanks TuftsKid! That actually makes me feel a lot better.
