Hi Everyone,

During the decision process, I noticed the differences of COMLEX 1 pass rate between different schools. I know that Board score are more determined by the students than the school, but it still shed some concerns to the curriculum structure and board prep resources at each school.

I was hoping to understand these numbers: If a school has a high board score pass rate (above 95%), would there be indications that pre-screen tests (COMASE) have prevented certain students from taking the test?

If a school has a relatively lower board score pass rate (below 90%), doest that mean everyone can take the board without pre-screen?

Is the pre-screen policy observed in your school?

Thanks for the help and please correct any mistakes.

Most schools do a pre-screen of sorts, and contrary to some of the mantra spouted it really isn’t about fluffing the numbers. It’s to help people not fail as a failure can seriously damage ones chances for residency.

Board pass rates don’t mean much at all as passing the boards is on your shoulders as the student so it isn’t a criteria I would place emphasis on in choosing schools.

Thank you! so basically take these number with a grain of salt?

What would you say about certain schools with lower pass rate (around 90 or lower than 90 pass?) would be some issue with the curriculum?

When you are given the nod, if you are, I'd pick the school you like best.

I would be concerned with a below 90 pass rate, failing boards torches your specialty options

I see.

But how should the pass rate be understood. Like how to know if the numbers are caused by prescreen or not

I hope you have the luxury of comparing. If you do, pick the best.

I was hoping to see from another perspective,

if the school A has pre-screen and had a 95 % pass rate, and 20 people did not pass the pre-screen,
School B doesnot have pre-screen and had a 85% pass rate, and 30 people did not pass the board

Now how should I understand these numbers?

Not sure if the board rate are related to curriculum......
