Okay guys, I'm pretty confused with the whole application process. If my question has already been answered (I've searched and didn't find much) then I'm sorry and it would be great if you'll provide a link to the thread, if one exists.

My main concern is the DAT application where it asks if I want schools to receive the official report, do I select all schools?

Also, I am told that it is best to start filling out the application early so when June comes I'd apply early....but I've searched the internet and there was no clue on which website I have to go to to fill in all the GPA/LoR/Shadowing.......where should I go and when will I be able to fill out the application (not send it, just fill it out to get it ready)

Thanks

No you can't fill anything out before June 4th. What you may have heard on SDN is people making accounts in order to print out the application, so they have it all filled out for the next cycle. See, AADSAS doesn't receive of your application unless you hit the submit button and pay the application fees. So people just make accounts, print the app. out and don't hit submit so they can have the app. information completed for their own records. This just makes it easier to transfer all the information over when you actually want to submit. I believe the cycle is closed for this year, so I am not sure if you can still make an account to print the app.out! So we all wait until June 4th, when the app. is online again.

1. First Section is just Applicant Information (this is quick, should take like 10-15 minutes at most to fill out)

2. Second Section is Education, this takes a while to enter the data, because you have to manually enter all your courses/grades from your transcript (no way to prepare this stuff)

3. Third Section is Professional Experience, see below for layout (the italics are the column names formatting obviously is not perfect since I just copied and pasted). For Description you can only write about 2 sentences for each thing. You'll probably want to not write it in complete sentences, but rather in bullet point format like on a resume so you can add more descriptive words.

Awards, Honors, Scholarships
Name Of Award, Honor Or Scholarship Sponsoring Organization Date Received Or Awarded: Month Date Received Or Awarded: Year

Dentistry / Shadowing Experience
Name Of Supervisor Position Title Type Of Dentistry Observed Brief Description Of Activities Total Number Of Hours Position Type Month Of Start Date Year Of Start Date Month Of End Date Year Of End Date

Extracurricular / Volunteer / Community Service
Name Of Organization Position Title Brief Description Of Activities Average Weekly Hours Total Number Of Hours Over Span Of Experience Month Of Start Date Year Of Start Date Month Of End Date Year Of End Date

Work Experience (including Military Service)
Name Of Employer Position Title City State Brief Description Total Number Of Hours Month Of Start Date Year Of Start Date Month Of End Date Year Of End Date

4. Fourth Section is Personal Statement. 4500 character limit including spaces. This is probably the only thing you can prepare ahead of time (well maybe the description for each activity also but like I said those are 2 sentences each).

Section 5, 6, and 7 are Letters of Evaluation, Release Statement, Dental School Designations (which schools you're applying to)

Honestly, it only makes sense to prepare Professional Experience/Personal Statement. Everything else is pretty short (except entering coursework but you can't really do that now).

For the DAT report as long as you choose one school it will get sent to AADSAS (which will send it to all schools you designate later on).

But it doesn't cost you any money to choose all the schools anyway...So either way as long as you pick >= 1 school when you register for the DAT, you're good to go.

@RalphMouth, thanks a lot man!
I ended up selecting ~15 schools just to be on the safe side.

Just one last question, about the LoR, is there a special form that the dentist/adviser (whoever is writing the letter) has to fill in or they'd write it on a normal sheet of paper. Also, do they send it or I'll have to get it from them and send it myself?

ps. if my questions sound ignorant, it is because I am ignorant about the process. Thank for the help

You can either choose to do LOE electronically or by paper. I recommend electronically, because once you designate someone (enter their name/address/e-mail/other basic info) a link gets sent to them and they go through that link to upload their letter of recommendation. It appears on AADSAS right away once submitted by the evaluator.

If you do paper letter, you can print out a matching form with a barcode that you give to your letter writer who snail mails that paper with their letter of recommendation to AADSAS. The barcode form has more specific instructions for your professor/dentist.

I know you didn't ask, but similarly there is also a bar code form you have to give to the registrar people at your school when they send out your transcript to AADSAS (to verify your coursework).

Ya'll are awesome. This is basically where I am at and Ralph thanks for all the info. Super helpful!

I am also ignorant to these things... just to be clear, I go to my professory/dentist who I want to write a letter for me. Ask them to prepare a letter, and ask for their email. When June roles around I sign onto the AADSAS site and designate them (give their name and email...) they get an email with a link and then they just upload it. that's it!?

thanks!
