Well, interviews are over and now I am struggling mightily with the rank list. I think it's even worse because I have the next two weeks off. It's all I think about. Up until yesterday, my #1 spot would change hands 3 or 4 times a day. Every time I think about where I am going to rank such and such program I get this huge knot in my stomach and I remind myself to stop thinking about it because I'm probably not going to make any progress and it's just going to frustrate me. I can't be the only one, can I? Oh, the number one by the way is the Steak 'n Shake. Yeah that's right, I'm gunning for the blended candy bar shake fellowship. In-and-Out is highly overrated, by the way, and you really can't go anywhere unless you complete the fry fellowship anyway.

Uh, Steak and Shake?

I guess this is why everyone has their own lists. No way I'm ranking Steak and Shake.

Anyway, my #1 is pretty set in stone, it's numbers 2-5 that have me losing sleep. And numbers 6-11 for that matter.

count me in for the blues club. i have meticulously narrowed it down from my top 7 to my top 5 over the course of the past week and a half but still can't break it down from there. it's a good problem to have, but what a profound problem! never thought i'd say it but i'll be happy when the match mother brain takes over my fate!

most of you will end up top 3... and most of those will be at #1.. good luck..

again if you have Qs about my program ( U of A) im here. PM me

Yeah, my top 3 are pretty much set, but 1 and 2 flip every now and then. 8-14 were pretty easy, but 4-7 were the toughest b/c I love all these programs...and if I could combine them, I'd have everything I want. I have a working list that hasn't changed in a few days and have given myself until 1 week before the actual deadline.

Yes, I too have the rank list blues. I can't keep my top 5 steady. I wonder what percentage of my concious thought is spent on my rol each day. Some continuous EKG type machina that could record thoughts would provide some scary data, I am sure.

Oh, I got the rank list blues!!!!!

Thats my advice..

I have it too. My top 5 has changed many times in the last few days. I think I know what will be 1-2 but i'm flipping between the 2 almost daily. The only trouble i'm having is location with my 1 and 2. Everything after 6 has remained stable for the most part.

I did one second look and it actually dropped on my list, especially when I really compared it to the last couple of interviews I had. I will do one more second look next week and I feel I'll have a completed ROL shortly after that.

I'll echo EF here. Most definitely end up in the top 3. Try not to lose too much sleep over 4-7, because I did and it wasn't worth it. I remember, though, that there was very little difference in what I thought of the programs in the middle. I would have been happy at them all.

One piece of advice, if you haven't already, is to go in and certify your rank list at least once EARLY in the process. There's always those stories of MSIVs who couldn't decide on their rank list and then didn't get it in on time. You can change it after you certify it, just make sure you have one in at the deadline.

Good Luck, Take a Deep Breath, You'll Be Fine... (funny, I remember all the EM residents telling me that last year, and it didn't help)

Anyway, if you need anything, let one of us know. And if you have any questions about Wash U, I'll be glad to help too.

Yeah, I think my number one is set in stone, as are 6-9, it's the 2-5 that I am agonizing over. I think I'd probably be happy with any of them, but the fact that I have to decide between them which is a better fit for me is what drives me crazy. One's a better program, another is a better location, another has the extracurricular activities I like, another. . . and it goes on and on. The funny thing is I created this elaborate weighted point scheme, and aside from my number one, I'm really not happy with the results, and so I think I'm going to scrap it all together.

Go with your heart. You'll make the most out of wherever you wind up at.

Oh yeah.🙄
The statue is in the stone.
The new life is only contained in the egg.
The story is all there. Just put it on the paper.

My top 5 are a swirl. I frankly dig them all equally, but then start thinking name vs. location vs. potential PD toxicity etc....

Where is my meadow? Where is my still pond? Where is my mountain fastness and temple of solitude in which this mystery will out!!?

Where is my bourbon?

Awesome, this is easily my favorite post of the year. You captured exactly how I feel right now in exactly the words I would have chosen on one of my more eloquent days. Which, by the way, is not today. Rock on!

Awwwwwww. thanks for the love. 🙂

Seriously, name shouldn't be in that top five bit...

Here is my advice.. for whatever it is:

Gut
Location

All else is, well mushy and makes one need shots of 100 proof😎

I go to a program with a name.. honestly it shouldnt make a difference. The ONLY thing that matters IMO when you are done is 1) will you be well trained and 2) can you get a good job you want and 3) location!

I think most programs will be good enough to satisfy 1 and 2.. everyone has a different #3.. and lastly

Did you like the residents? Do they have similar interests to you?

The program is basically the people..
