Thank you! Yes, I am a TX resident and this is my first acceptance to a Texas MD school. So, just to be clear, I still should accept the offer that I've got, right? After that, I can still drop it if I get another offer?
If you have no other offers, you must accept your offer.

If you have offers outside of Texas at another MD school, you also must notify them withdrawing from there.

Once you accept, it is true that you only have until next thursday evening for your top choice to make an offer or else you will be going here.

When you make your final choice, we love to hear your news, so post that on the page of where you will be going

If you just moved up from a WL but had a previous acceptance , remember it's your responsibility to directly contact the school you are leaving behind, to inform them

Just to confirm if I CTE at an OOS school I can still stay on Texas WL? Amcas states “
I am confirming my commitment to matriculate to the medical school selected above*.
By selecting "Commit to Enroll," I am indicating that I have made my final selection and withdrawn all other applications, including waitlist positions”

You probably can stay on the Texas WL for a little longer.
However, if your OOS school messages you and says, "We noticed you have not dropped all your WL positions the way we asked you to" that will be your cue to drop the TX WLs.

Congratulations on an MD admission though!

Thank you so much! So AAMC can’t drop the waitlist for me once I CTE I have to do it individually on the portal?

I could be wrong but I believe if you do CTE on AAMC, whatever waitlists AAMC is tracking for you can disappear.

Are your TMDSAS waitlists showing up on AMCAS?

Yes, it will be your responsibility to withdraw from WLs either on the portal or by a direct email to the school.
If you have at least one AMCAS acceptance, both your AMCAS and TMDSAS school acceptances and WLs will be visible on the CYMS tool.

Oh got it i’m going to hold on to them unless the school tells me to drop them then! thank you!

I should add that any WL schools that see you have marked CTE will not invite you to join their class, so it’s playing with fire to try to skirt the rules. You have to make a final decision sometime, and that time is usually at the CTE deadline of your AMCAS school.

Please be aware that any WL offer coming from Texas after May 15th will have a short decision deadline (5 days).
Do your thinking
now if you think you might hear something from a WL.

If you already have a TMDSAS school, after May 15th at 5 PM that's your school, no more trading up to other TMDSAS schools.

if you matched at a texas school but withdrew for an oos school, the may 15th deadline still applies, right?

The TMDSAS website says that on May 15th “medical schools can no longer make offers to Texas resident applicants holding another seat.” Does this mean OOS students with a TMDSAS acceptance can still be offered a TMDSAS acceptance off the waitlist after this date, or will I also be committed to my school on Thursday?

It goes for OOS applicants too. I found the same wording you did when searching for this information because we discuss this every year around this time.
Looking closer that seemed to be a cached page from 2024 or earlier.
The directions to admissions directors this year are clear that it applies to anyone holding another TMDSAS seat.

It's time to quit sitting on the fence!
If you are still holding 2 seats or deciding about a recent WL offer, you may need to act without knowing every detail.

I matched and later declined an IS offer because of a better OOS acceptance (CTE). As of now, Am I still on the TMDSAS waitlists for the remainder of my schools?

Did you withdraw from your Match school, or not?
Edit to add:
I assume you did withdraw from your Match school to mark the OOS school Commit to Enroll.

TMDSAS deans will not break that CTE covenant you made with your OOS school, thus you won’t be getting any more TMDSAS offers

TMDSAS question - I just got my grade for a prereq finalized, but am not able to update it on the portal. Am I ok with just sending my final transcript to my matched school?

Texas Roundup May 16-20, 2025

A little break in the action!
That May 15th landmark has passed
Most schools have been celebrating their graduating MS4 students at commencement ceremonies
There will be meetings and re-assessments and count-ups and emails asking undecided (or maybe also indecisive!) folks who have been offered a spot from the WL what they decided.

There are a few SDN members who posted "Help Me Decide" threads but haven't announced what they decided.

Nevertheless, here's what I have over the last 5 days:

It is still pending final senate approval but that is likely, the good news is that the guidance about pass/fail grading was changed to mandate 50% rather than 100% pass/fail (Search HB 5294 Texas to read the final bill). This should allow schools to primarily or completely leave preclinical pass/fail while using 4 level type grading for clinical years (H/HP/P/F or similar) as is common anyway.

My understanding is that the final day they could vote on it in the senate was May 28th, and it did NOT pass. Source: https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/BillStages.aspx?LegSess=89R&Bill=HB5294

Oh gosh, this is Texas and rules are well....flexible, especially in the state senate. It's kind of like me having to do my business by 9 pm but sometimes I want to go out after that, just because. Heck, those senators didn't stay for a public hearing until 2 am for nothing. Of note is that the real interest in the senate is not on that part of the bill which is why they were willing to change it.

Is a good place to watch and see if it gets that final senate vote it needs. I bet it will. Also, it could be brought back in one of the special sessions that typically occurs after the primary 140 day period ends.

okay, it's just been reported in the media (look up quorum report) that the bill got axed by accident! Still not sure it can't be resuscitated or brought up in a special session, but it does appear that they failed to do the procedural things needed to get it through in time!
would you mind adding a link to a source that talks about axing the bill?

In Texas, the state constitution mandates that a bill must be read on three separate days in each chamber unless this requirement is suspended by a four-fifths vote.

What Happened:
  • May 10, 2025: HB 5294 passed the Texas House on its third reading.
  • May 28, 2025: In the Senate, the bill was read a second time and passed to third reading
  • Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is in charge of the Texas Senate (called the "conservative upper chamber").
  • On Wednesday evening (May 28, 2025), he adjourned the Senate instead of just taking a recess.
    • Adjourn = officially end the session.
    • Recess = pause, but resume later.
  • Because he adjourned it, when the Senate reconvened Thursday, they were technically starting fresh.
  • That meant to pass any bills that had only passed their second reading on Wednesday, the Senate had to skip the required three-day waiting rule for a final vote.
    • That rule can only be skipped if four-fifths of senators agree.

Numbers:
  • The Texas Senate has 31 members.
  • Four-fifths of 31 = 24.8, which means 25 votes are needed to suspend the rule.
  • Republicans currently hold 19 seats.
  • Democrats hold 12 seats.

So, Republicans are well short of the 25 votes needed.

What This Means for Those Bills:

  • They are effectively stalled or dead for this legislative session — unless:
    • The Senate reconvenes in another session (special or regular), or
    • The bills are reintroduced and go through the process again.

I'm going to close up this thread for the year, y'all.
Texas Roundup, the Tumbleweed/ghost town edition

I haven't seen anyone share a Texas offer from a WL since July 2.
I think we're done here, but if anyone gives me late news I will add it to this post.

There will be a new Republic of Texas thread in about a month, for our 2025-2026 cycle updates & chat, including dates of when the interview invitations are going out.

So far, as of July 11, 7 schools have begun sending interview invitations:
Dell
UT Tyler
SHSU
Texas Tech El Paso
Texas Tech Lubbock
Texas A&M
UTMB

Please follow your schools on the school-specific threads to watch for news.
Believe me, people will post when they get an invitation.
Please don't spam the threads with "anyone get anything yet?" posts 🙄
