Anyone know if for the md/phd research essay:
  1. You should organize it thematically (quantitative, qualitative), in order of importance (graduate, undergraduate, minor projects), or chronologically (in 2007, in 2011...)?
  2. Skills vs. subejct matter: Focus on subject matter relevant to the PhD you are planning to pursue (for example if social sciences exclude bench lab experience)?
  3. Should minor research projects (for example a 4 month research course with a team, independent research projects etc.) that taught you new research skills?
Some examples I've seen online look like laundry lists of lab work to me, I'm wondering if those are just bad examples or if I'm overthinking this. Thanks!

1. Chronologically is how I usually recommend, because that typically flows best. But there's no right answer.

2. If you have space, describe it all out. If you have social science research and are now interested in basic research, just try to make that clear.

3. Yes.

I recommend organizing each experience in a paragraph or two. A sentence or two for the topic of the lab/project. A sentence or two for its improtance. A sentence or two for what techniques you used. A sentence or two for what you got out of it (subjective and/or objective). Possibly a sentence or two for how you plan to use that area of research in the future.
