Some of the big university program interviews that I have gone on had like 50 applicants there for an interview.

The PD at some of those programs encouraged a second look.

We both know the 2nd look helps the applicant be more sure of their decision.

But can the 2nd look help the applicant also move higher on the rank list or be more competitive? In other words, does it give the program a chance to do a "2nd look" on the applicant?

I only found one dedicated thread to this in the back search.

Thanks!

No program will openly say this, as it would be unfair to those who live in a different part of the country. As to whether or not it could make a difference, no one can know the answer to that really. Will a program like MGH care if you came for a second look? Doubtful as they know pretty much everyone who interviews there would be very interested in being there the next year.

Scaredshizzles, that was a very honest and accurate answer. I think in the top notch programs, the 2nd look won't help you that much. So Hah-vad, UCSF, etc.

However, I think in mid-tier or lower university programs, 2nd look could help substantially.

Can anyone who did a 2nd look and matched to that program comment?
