How many programs out there employ the silent rejection? In other words, how many programs never send out rejection letters? Personally, I would prefer to know I was being rejected so I could stop checking my email every 15 minutes (who am I kidding, I'm on the weather channel local on the 8s schedule).

I haven't heard from 18 programs yet (most have given at least some interviews) and I've only received one actual rejection. :bang:

I agree, I would rather hear back a rejection and have closure than not hear anything from a program. I applied last year and did not match and I only heard back from half of the programs that I applied to. The other half wouldn't even respond to me when I sent "i'm interested" emails to some of them.

I think that it's just common courtesy. My logic is this.... I spent my limited time and hard earned money to apply to your program, the least you can (if you don't like me and don't want to interview me) is click that button/box on the ERAS site of the PD and reject me.

I've heard that a huge number of programs never respond, even if you email them. I have emailed 2 programs so far and have never heard a peep from them. I think some programs keep a bunch of applicants in their pockets just in case they need to call on them if a more 'preferred' candidate cancels. On the other hand, some programs are just bastards and renegades. I actually got an interview from a program that never responds before 2-3 weeks to its emails. I still dont know if my interview is confirmed and its been like that since september.

I applied in 2001. I applied to I believe 46 programs had about 2 wait-lists, 4 interviews, multiple rejections, and I am still waiting to hear from about 6-8 programs. I guess by this time they don't want me.
