I'm going over the Goljan audio these days and notice that there are bits and pieces that he skips over. I'm only into the 3rd file so far and he's skipped over stuff like gummatous necrosis, several causes of fatty live (CO, shocks, drugs), conditions with increased\decreased melanin pigment, increased iron and other stuff. He's also skipped over details of apoptosis (he kind of just breezed past it in his audio).

Are these topics not as important, or does he cover them later on in some other tape under the relevant systemic pathology sections? Or are we supposed to do them ourselves?

I definitely don't think we should expect him to cover everything. That would be impossible! I think he covers the high yield stuff, and his lectures should be used as an extra resource, but not the MAIN resource.

We've talked about all of those things. The problem with the "Goljan audio" is that you may not get the complete information, since they are bootlegs. Since his rapid review covers those areas, I would assume his lectures do too.

He just skips over some topics that are very important. Make sure you cover all your bases. As I said before, Goljan doesn't know half of the exam. Contrary to the belief of some who post every time the words "Goljan+audio" appear on SDN, Goljan doesn't know half of the topics actually covered on Step 1. Think of Goljan as a stepping stone...he will get you in the stream, but not all the way across to safety.

Thanks Pox, for that clarification. I'll use the audio as an aid then, and not THE main resource.

For the others, sorry if I posted something that was covered before. It didn't occur to me that this might have been.

does anyone know what year those audio sessions were actually recorded?

I know he made a reference to the Power Rangers in one lecture, which makes me inclined to believe they're in the range of about 10 years old... which doesn't bode well, now that I think about it...

Gunner!!!

Nice job trying to divert traffic by LYING. You should turn in your SDN privileges. Your malicious motive undermines the main purpose of SDN. If you don't want to help other SDNers, SHUT THE HEII UP rather than making up LIES!!

I hate people like you.

All you do is fill up SDN with smokescreen chiefly for your own benefit.

Wowwwwww...

It's only January. Might want to pace yourself on the anxiety level there.

In one of his lectures, Dr. Goljan went on some tangent about playing with his little kids, and how his little boy is really into the Power Rangers and how he has to pretend he's a Power Ranger when he plays with his son. The Power Rangers were big in the 1990s. That's alllll that I am saying. I didn't think it was any secret that Goljan's lectures aren't exactly fresh out of the oven, so to speak. Clearly, *I* still listen to Goljan.

The fact that I am just NOW realizing that you thought I was trying to stop the entire SDN world from listening to Goljan so I could take over Step 1 in some sort of devilish plan should speak volumes. Why don't you take your McCarthyist finger pointing elsewhere? Everyone's a gunner these days, apparently.

I'm not interested in starting a fight, or toying with anyone's over-weaning apprehension about the test. Let's just friggen get along.

Anyhoo...

Naw, they definitely are not 10 years old. Put them in between Power Rangers and Yugi-Oh (making them ~4-5 years old...). If you'll notice, Dr. Goljan spoke in New York right as he was finishing up his book with John Pelley for Rapid Review Biochemistry. Most books take 1-2 years of editing/revising before they are actually released for press. Rapid Review Biochemistry was released in March 2003. I estimate the lectures circa September 2001.

I wonder why newer bootlegs haven't come out. How hard can it be to sneak a microphone in a review session? Or are the review takers body searched these days? 😀

They are definately before 2002, because he mentions Anthony Trevor as being a fellow lecturer on the review program he's teaching. Trevor recorded the Kaplan videos in 2001 (I'm using them right now), and I think Kaplan gets exclusive dibbies on their lecturers, not allowing them to teach in other review programs.

Having Goljan back in 2001 must have been one HELL of an edge!

Also the drugs that he mentions, like Zileuton and Zafirlukast, I seriously doubt whether they were used 10yrs back, agree that they have to be about 4 to 5 yrs old!

He still talks about that stuff....

2001 I think. In one of the first lectures I think he said something about it. I don't remember what it was but if you are really into it, you can listen over the first few again.
