The SubmittednAMCAS Really, Really Late Thread

Not ALL schools send secondaries before verification even if they don't screen. I applied to several non-screening schools on 10/3 which only send secondaries when your application is verified

So even if you're not verified, the schools know you've applied? Most of the schools on my list are non-screening, but I have yet to receive a secondary. Should I write and tell them the situation and ask for a secondary before the deadline? What about schools that screen?

Ok - hopefully I can explain this clearly! There are 3 different types of schools I can think of:

1) Screening schools - these schools will send you a secondary after reviewing your VERIFIED AMCAS application if and only if they believe you qualify for their secondary.

2) Non-screening schools #1 - These schools will send secondaries automatically, but not until after your AMCAS application is verified. Often, they are sent immediately after the application is verified. However, some can take a few days.

3) Non-screening schools #2 - These schools send you a secondary when you SUBMIT your primary even before verification. As far as I know, this is least common among medical schools (I applied to 15, and none sent before verification).

Hope this helps! Let me know if it's confusing

I think you're correct. I applied to 15 as well, and although a number of them don't screen applicants I've only received two secondaries pre-verification (and that happened the day after submitting).

p.s. lets hear some good-news stories from people who submitted late in previous cycles and still got in

Hey all. I was a late submitter (9-4-06) got verified 10-4-06 and got an interview request today which I scheduled for 11/15 so there are still spots open. Don't get discouraged and good luck!!!!!

Well the people who had the gall to submit late are finally getting verified. Whew.
Shame on us all!
Post when you get your first "late-submitter interview."

Well I just submitted 11/15 primary so ... umm .. yea.

Secondaries are going out as soon as I recieve them.

How soon does OSU and Toledo send out secondaries after verification?

Well Rochester verified that I was complete...they're the only school to do so so far, although I'm only complete at 2 other places lol

I'm a Psych major too and I had little contact with my pre-med advisor while attending college. What I did, just in case, was have my recommenders also send the letters to a cred file I have open. How did you get around the Medical Schools' demand for committee letters? I don't know if my "My pre-med advisor likes berating me so I thought it wasn't a good idea" would work.

Whoa - do medical schools require a letter from a premed committee or advisor? I had heard about this before, but is this ALL medical schools?

Most that I have encountered say that if you have a premedical committee, they would prefer a composite letter or letter packet from them, but they will accept individual letters of recommendation as long as you write a letter to them explaining why you were not not able to obtain one.
