Ok, I got rejected this morning. UCSF was my first choice because of location and reputation. Now, it's time to cry, haha, just kidding.

Let us band together and support each other in this rejection downer time!

I think UCSF is more competitive this year than others because I thought my stats and essays would at least get me an interview. I'm not sure what to think, but it probably won't do any good to assume anything.

I got interviews at UOP and USC. I thought my USC application wasn't that great, so I assumed that UCSF would give me one also, but no! Oh well, hopefully I do well on the interviews I have and at least get into A pharmacy school! This just puts more pressure on me to do well, and more pressure during interviews isn't good, rawr.

Hopefully a rejection doesn't ruin anyone's vacation :scared:

Oh yes, I forgot, we can post our stats and feel better about ourselves hehe:

Univ. - Cal
PharmCAS cum. - 3.64
PharmCAS sci. - 3.54
Did over 400 hours of hospital volunteer service, have several different extracurricular activities, including leadership positions
96 PCAT - but they don't consider it, just showing off (but didn't talk about it on app. though)

I'm sorry to hear that!

Did you get the letter through snail mail and live near SF?

Anxiety is growing very strong....

I'm sorry to hear that. May I ask you how did they contact you? By phone, email, or letter?

Also, having UOP and USC interviews are good news. They are two of the top four schools in California. Cheer up! 😀

Your stats looks great, better than mine. =) You WILL get into A pharmacy shcool. I have no doubt about that.:luck:

I'm sorry to hear about the rejection. I thought your competitive stats and your extracurricular background would get you at least an interview too. I'm curious, did you have any pharmacy experience at all?

Sorry, I forgot to say that those are 400 hours of hospital pharmacy volunteering experience - not hospital volunteering.

I got the letter by snail mail and live about an hour away from UCSF by car, hehe. You will get your letters soon (hopefully interviews!).

Thanks for the encouragement shylock! I hope you will succeed also. Why can't everyone succeed in this world; it'd be such a better place! hehe 🙂

Hey, no problem. Maybe it is a sign that you gonna com to soCal and make some new friends here. =)

I guess all socal people will get THAT letter tomorrow. Thank you powertoold for the heads up!

one of my friends got in with BA in jewish studies and the other one in psychology. I don't know why you got rejected. sorry to hear that.

Wow now I am very scared because my stats aren't even close to yours. Man! Sorry for the news powertoold. Hopefully you get in UOP or USC :luck:

Wow, sorry to hear that. With your stats, it's no wonder that you're surprised.

I guess we just never know what they look for in an applicant, and that criteria probably changes every year. Two years ago, someone I know from UCSD with a biology major had a 3.78 cGPA (and sGPA somewhere close to that) and was not granted an interview, either. He reapplied again, and got in.

Good luck with your UOP and USC interviews ^^

Well I got my rejection letter today. 🙁 I'm from the bay area so you guys should be hearing from them soon. Hope you guys get better news than me GOOD LUCK

wait. so for SoCal people, the letters are coming in tomorrow?

....so if i dont get a rejection letter tomorrow....that means...nothing? something?

It seems from last year some people received letters around this time and others received them in January, so dont worry too much. Also I turned my application right before deadline if that means anything. Well hope you get good news.

yeah same here. the day before the deadline to be exact. but it took awhile for pharmcas to get my grades calculated.

if you dont mind me asking....what were your stats?

lol seriously.

but my morale is pretty low right now after seeing OP's stats

me:
overall GPA: 3.45
science GPA: 3.73
volunteer research in lab (earned a NIH grant for my PI)
worked at a daycare/summer camp [i dont know if this is really pharmacy relevant but i did focus on it in my essays]
NO PHARMACY EXPERIENCE blahhh....x_X

what about you guys?

I think I'll go pitch a tent and start a campfire for the mail. I also live in so. cal.

forget camping. im going to setup a 1 mi radius patrol for the mail man and blitzkrieg his car when i see him

well guys... I got the letter today after coming home from work.

It's pretty sad especially right before Christmas... but good luck to all who will get interviews and those who don't 😀 don't worry... we will still have other schools! 😀

My stats aren't that great. But I'm still sad that I didn't get an interview

Overall GPA: 3.50
Sci GPA: 3.47

I volunteered and worked at a pharmacy for 2 years now. I also worked as a chemistry TA and have other various extra curricular activities.

I'm not sure how true this is, but I would say UCSF is the one school that applicants could get accepted without pharmacy experience.

We can mourn our loss together kidlove and how ironic! heh

Yes, UCSF is probably looking for a specific type of person to interview. I really don't think stats and whatnot matter, but I'm confused as to what they want. I've heard stories of people with low GPAs and barely any extracurriculars get into UCSF heh.

You can add me to the official reject list. Yay 👎. I hope our breaks will brighten up soon, and good luck to everyone else still waiting :luck:.

Do you mind me asking what did the letter look like and what exactly did it say ?

1 regular sized envelope with 1 page... started with "We regret..."

my mail got stolen yesterday so I decided to call up the cali schools i applied to to see if they have sent any notices out. I just got off the phone with UCSF and they told me that my letter was sent out yesterday so I should be getting it either tomorrow or Saturday. After reading this thread...it looks like it's gonna be a rejection letter. hmmph! oh well....there are other schools to look forward to...hopefully. 😳

I live in San Francisco a few blocks away from the school - if they sent out a first batch of letters one or 2 days ago, I probably would have gotten it already.

got my letter today as well. live 20 minutes away from UCSF.

good luck to those still waiting! hope it's an interview invite!!

Hey pharmcas514--

May I ask for your stats? I'm starting to lose hope after reading this thread......Like Powertoold said, I really don't know what they are looking for in applicants.

I think if you don't get a letter tomorrow, you're in good shape for an interview! 😀

Read UCSF thread where UCSF students explain what they look for -from what I understand even though they look at the GPA they care much singnificantly more about your "giving back to the community experience". I know a few people there with low to average GPA but who are very extraordinary and they were accepted even though their GPA wasn't high.

OMG, this is so scary. Some of the stats posted deemed worthy of an interview.

Crap, I'm going to be at work all day too.

I guess I'll need to face reality when I get home.

i got my rejection today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

(i fail with a smile)

Me too! I just opened mine 2 minutes ago. Oh well, there's always next year if I don't get accepted to any of the schools this year.

i just realized something...

did UCSF send the letter to your current address or pernament address on the UCSF supp app?

edit: sorry for asking a pre-mature question. i did some reading and they ship it to your preferred address that you stated on your pharmcas app.

Permanent address. I think I indicated that my permanent address is my preferred address....since I go to UCSD, but am home in the OC pretty often.

yeah i go to UCSD too and i dont trust the mail man lol
i had mine mailed to my permanent address in LA.

im dying in anxiety....

yea, recently, ive come to realize that theres a very good chance that i wont get accepted to a pharmacy program for fall 2008. and its totatlly fine...i started preparing for the next application cycle by enrolling in prepharm courses for winter quarter and planning out my prepharm class schedule till summer 2008....i dont have a job (im about to get my MS biology)...so ill have plenty of time to make me a competitive applicant for the next time around. i dont have much money saved up....but ill figure out something...hanging around airport restroom stalls is an option...we'll see!!!

goodluck to you.

good luck to you all! Waiting was the hardest part and it's a difficult time in your life - i'm glad it's over now.

Got my rejection letter just now. I wasn't planning to go to SF so the letter wasn't a disappointment. My target school was USC~

I am also going to email UCSD to withdraw my application so that someone else can take my spot, if I am even considered for an interview.

I wish you luck, since all of you guys deserve to be admitted for 2008!😍

I am sitting here waiting - completely paralyzed with fear. I can't even bring myself to go check the mail today - I think I'll just wait untill my bf gets home and chekcs it for me. 🙂

hey cheburashka, if you dont mind me asking, this is completely off topic, but what is your ethnicity?

edit: i think you're in the clear. those who lived in norcal got the letters yesterday. its more the socal people who are expecting the letters today.

No problem - I am Russian born and raised, live here for a few years now though. 🙂🙂🙂

If you don't get anything today, you're probably in good shape. It shouldn't take more than 2 days for the letter to arrive from the other end of California...unless things go wrong during the delivery....which is pretty rare. On the brighter side, you have better stats than mine and also a background in research. Well, good luck to you waiting. 🙂
