schools that will accept below 3.0 easily: Puerto Rico, MCPHS. (Just apply to those 2 and you're set)

Maybe if you have a high OAT (above 320): Western, Midwestern, Incarnate Word.

Dental school is a lot harder to get into 😛

I;ve got a 2.6GPA, but a 390 OAT..

I've heard the same about dental school. I feel dental programs also have a lot more applicants, hence making them more selective.

I had a 2.95 overall gpa and an OAT of 340 on AA and TS. I was accepted into PCO. the school i come from is also a bit more competitive so they took that into account. and currently on hold for SUNY so i think you may have some chances at a few schools. also it depends on your shadowing and experience. if you lack in those areas as well, then you really need to consider MCHPS or PUCO

Yep. It's the same deal with nursing. It's popular at the moment so many people are flocking to it and causing accepted GPAs (and other criteria) to shift higher than normal. When my relative became a nurse over 35 years ago everyone got into the program because no one wanted to be a nurse at that time (computer science was all the rage). Frankly, this relative of mine has no idea why nursing has become so popular because it's a lousy career (from her perspective).

Definitely not interested in dental, was just browsing the forums since the DAT and OAT are similar 🙂 Thanks for posting which schools would accept the lower gpa's though! My GPA is at a 3.3 right now, trying to raise it right now, but I'm just preparing for the worst! I'm applying to schools early summer, so I will post on here when the time comes.

2.98 GPA, 300 OAT, accepted to UIWRSO

I also got an interview to PCO that I turned down, and interviewed at Nova and had to send in my 1st semester grades. I am still waiting to hear back from MCO, ICO, and SCO.

Honestly, if you are on the border and worried, hopefully you have a lot of extracuriculars and optometry experience, and then really nail the interview. Use the interview feedback section on here and be prepared for every single question. Basically just give them every reason to look past your mediocre numbers because you are impressive in other areas, and they will give you a chance.

IAUPR is 3.0 or higher and a 300 or higher on OAT. Now grant it, there are some that slip through the cracks, but I can assure you that anyone below those standards are not "set". The Jury is still out on MCPHS tho.

My science GPA is a 3.34 and overall gpa is 3.74. ive got great oats but have practically no shadowing/ extracurriculars... and im applying now so im pretty late... does anyone know how much they focus on shadowing/extrac.....and if itll rly hurt my chances of getting in...

GPA and OAT scores take most of the cake, I think you will be fine.
