I think Squat n Squeeze likes to pat himself/herself on the back.

People who go to ivy league institutions (or simiar like Stanford, MIT, Duke) don't go around saying "Look, I'm ivy educated". I don't think Squat n Squeeze realize this but there are a lot of people on this board who goes/went to an ivy league school or MIT or Duke or Berkeley, etc. - and they could care less that Squat n Squeeze goes to an ivy school.

As for differential calc - good for you - but last I check, diffy eq. isn't that hard. Now, if you said "look, I took pchem and understood all the math" or "I'm a biophysics major and I can explain all the complex biological processes w/ math equations", then I'll be impressed.

OK - back to sleeping for me
We pre-osteopaths are lazy bunch of folks

It's ok jekel, I was just yankin' yer chain. I didn't mean to say that you weren't welcome here. You are.

In fact, any pre-med is, provided that pre-med doesn't go around trolling like S n S up there.

As a matter of fact, I did take physical chemistry (2 semesters of it) this year as part of my Biochemistry major. I did understand all of the math behind it and got an "A" in both classes. I have taken MANY upper level physics classes as a part of my Physics major, and I will be taking a class in biophysics next year.

Differential calulus is a fairly advanced course. It is the fourth semester of college level calculus. I only took Calc III and differential calc in college since I AP'ed out on Calc I and II. The reason I never studied any further in math is because I am not a math major. I am a double major w/ minor and I don't really have time for much more. Although I am considering one more upper level math class for my final semester next year (possibly Partial Differential Equations).

Looks like someone went to one of the "or" schools and is carrying around a chip on his/her shoulder.

No wonder you only got into a lousy osteopathic school.

HAHA

So true

I have a chip on my shoulder because I went to an "or" school

Oh wait - hold on as I get my diploma - wow, I did go to an ivy school - (group theory pats himself on the back - actually, waiting for the diploma in the mail since I'm a recent grad)

Man, for someone that claims to be smart, you sure do make a lot of conclusory statements

And yeah, I'm kicking myself for going to a lousy osteopathic medical school. But silly me - I thought stuff like facilities, student body, location, faculty were more important in choosing a school than 2 post-nominal letters - but what do I know - I'm just a dumb pre-osteo student so I don't know what I'm talking about. Should have gone to Temple or GW instead.

Hey Squat, (ie.. as in what you know right now)

I'm an MD chief resident at a decent east coast hospital. I've seen many of your types come through the door, and lemme be the first to tell you, grow the hell up. You will be hazed to no end if you come in with that "Ivy-trained-ho-hum" attitude you parade around. In medicine, your undergrad degree is worth the paper it's printed on. So, leave the ego at the door, along with the calculus and physical chemistry, both useless in medicine. Regarding your seeming distaste for osteopathic medicine, you're going to be in for a rude awakening when those "degree mills" produce students who know just as much as you do about internal medicine and even more than you about musculoskeletal medicine. Our chief resident next year will be a D.O. and he's probably the best young doc I've ever worked with, and my Ivy-trained PD agrees. For someone who will need a large dose of an open mind in their career, you sure are off to a slow start.

Oh my - i just can't wait to read squat's next post. It should be a classic. Squat, welcome to the "boy do I look stupid now" club.

Awesome responses to a troll's posts...though people seem to be movin' in on the undergrads' territory at an alarming rate 😀...just kiddin' dudes, I dunno how agent (the guy who started the thread) would feel about it, but I'm ok with it for now.

I wonder what the troll said? I mean I'm ignoring him, so I don't know what he said to make you respond like that, but I do have a feeling that it's gotta be something stupid 😀

To be honest, I know that once I enter the medical world my undergraduate degree will not be worth much. That is why I plan on continuing my education in an Ivy League medical school. I am competitive, elite, and along with a small percentage of other premeds, am at the top. I plan on becoming a Neurosurgeon, and I will reach my goal. I have the stellar background that it takes, and I will continue to perform as I always have.

Also, if osteopathic schools are so great, why is there such an overwhelming number of D.O. neurosurgery residents?

An osteopathic physician is nothing more than an overqualified nurse practitioner, in my opinion, as well as in the opinions of many of my fellow premed students at my Ivy League institution.

First off, I'm showing this post to one of surgical resident pals, who's also "Ivy" and he's almost on the floor laughing. Congrats for being "at the top" , until you meet a chief resident like me, or my friend here, who will humble you very, very quickly. You keep refering to that "stellar background", yet that and a $1.25 will get you a cup of coffee once in medicial school. The slate is wiped clean, in other words.

Also, if osteopathic schools are so great, why is there such an overwhelming number of D.O. neurosurgery residents?

Who judges a profession by the number of a particular specialty they produce? Neurosurgery, while of course competitive, is actually in a bit of a lull right now, as are other surgical fields (except for ortho maybe) b/c of the PLI crisis and docs choosing lifestyle over glitz and glamour. If it wasnt for those primary care docs, you wouldnt have any patients anyway! The first thing a specialist learns... take care of your GP's, b/c they are your pipeline. You have alot to learn.

An osteopathic physician is nothing more than an overqualified nurse practitioner, in my opinion, as well as in the opinions of many of my fellow premed students at my Ivy League institution

Funny, I did a google search and found a few D.O. neurosurgeons in about 4 seconds. I guess they're also overqualified nurse practioners. Heh. One thing's for sure, they're more qualified than you. If you are for real, which I'm starting to doubt, find another career, because with this attitude, your patients will hate you as will your colleagues, nurses, etc. You have PhD written all over you, my friend.... no offense to my PhD friends, of course.

To Squat n Squeeze:

🙄        🙄

Sorry, I said that I was gonna ignore you, but your idiocy makes you seem so freakin' funny LOL! If what you say is true, then you've just proven a stereotype I've had about Ivy League students: they are arrogant, stupid, and lack any common sense whatsoever.

Note to ACTUAL Ivy League students out there: Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, but this dude just doesn't seem to have any common sense

Wonder what squat and squeeze would do if he ever had a DO who was his attending?🙄

Squat n Squeeze,

with your attitude you probably get your ass kicked all the time, huh?

Okay, with all the people Squat n Squeeze has brought in, I have to protest...you guys and gals are starting to move the thread in a direction it wasn't intended to be moved, and if this is due to my post warning at the Pre-Osteo board, I apologize, but seriously, you're feedin' the troll here...

I'm finding it harder to ignore him now that you people are comin' on to respond to him...please don't, because you're just doin' what he wants you to do...namely respond to him and give him attention.

PLEASE DON'T FEED THE TROLL ANYMORE!

I'm sorry I have to sound harsh, but this is starting to get ridiculous. This thread was intended for pre-meds to help eachother out, NOT to BASH TROLLS. If a troll jumps in, just ignore him/her, please!

It's also no use trying to convince Squat n Squeeze from his viewpoints, because while he may be a genius 🙄 he is very lacking in wisdom. He doesn't listen to reason, so why bother?

biodude u are rite, so anyway...

Huh? What's this post here for? 😕

Thanks for the support guys and gals. I'm waiting for my unemployment to come through. I've worked a lot of overtime the past six months, so it should be a pretty large award. I discussed it with my wife and she agreed that if the unemployment comes out to what my salary was, that I won't be going back to work. I'll just go to school and be Mr. Mom for as long as I can collect.

I had a huge O chem test on Thursday. It encompassed six chapters and was 10 pages long. I think I did ok, but I am really hoping for a B or high C, because that will place me in B+ to A- range with the curve. So I have my fingers crossed.

BTW, what happened to Agent--I haven't seen any of his posts for about 6 pages?

Hey, CJ2Doc, welcome back...

Sorry about your having to wade through trolling and troll-bashing posts...

I hope that the unemployment does come through for you.

As for agent, no knows what's happened to him...it's been a long while, and the last time I checked his last post was on the 9th of this month. Theories are circulating around, but nobody has agent's e-mail address or any contact info...

I've missed this for quite some time, and now I believe it is appropriate for me to join in.
Hey everyone! I'm a 20 yr old Junior Bio major at Towson University. I decided this semester that some form of medicine was the way I wanted to go, whether it be being a physician or a pharmacist. Since the prereqs are very similar, I thought I'd come hang out here. I'll probably need the support, fall semester will be tough 🙂

Interestingly enough, I was exploring what sciences I was into, and I ended up with 2 pre-reqs done this semester, Chem I and Bio I.

My grades were very good, I snagged 3 As, and a B, which came in Bio, a combo of cell biology and genetics, with an insanely hard teacher, and a ton of material. I was happy with how everything turned out.

I'm taking Chem II over the summer with a very nice professor, albeit VERY hard. Hopefully I'll do well there, since I'm signed up for Orgo I in the fall 🙂

For the fall:
Orgo I with the best teacher at Towson
Statistics(pharm prereq in case I choose that pathway, easy prof)
Speech(another pharm deal, another easy prof)
Sociology 101(gen ed class, shouldn't be very bad)
Bio II, which here is an evolution, ecology, behavior class. Good, but challenging prof.

That's about all I'm gonna spout off for tonight, as its 5am and I think its time for bed 🙂

Welcome Cozmosis!! Sounds like you've got a good plan set our for yourself whichever way you end up going. I think we're all gonna be supporting each other come fall course loads lol. 😀 I think you'll find Chem II a bit easier than Chem I so you should be fine taking it over the summer even with a hard teacher 🙂 . If you have any questions feel free to post them, IM them, or PM them and I'm sure some of us that have finished the Gen Chem sequence will be more than happy to help!

CJ2Doc - I hope umemployment works out for you. I know it was a godsend for me. Since I was filing around the first of the year they had taken a lot of the time I was still working full time to figure it out so I came out ahead  Good luck with your grade on the Ochem test. 6 chapters at once? sheesh....I hope none of mine cover that much material lol.

--Jessica, UCCS

Alrighty! The threads beginning to go back to the way it was before!

Hey Cozmosis, welcome to the club, and sounds like you know what you're doing. Is that speech class a public speaking one or debate? I've heard that many Pharm schools require public speaking/debate and won't take an interpersonal comm course (like I did) 😀

Cell Bio and Genetics combined? Wow, that's pretty hard. At my school, the Bio course sequence goes like this: Evolution and Biodiversity (also includes a little bit of Ecology and Conservation Bio in here), Cellular Basis of Life, Genetics and Molecular Biology (combined), and Physiology and Ecology (combined).

I've heard many many people say that G. Chem II is easier than G. Chem I...I'll be taking G. Chem II in the Fall. I think that maybe you can help us out just as much (or even more!) as we can help you out, dude.

As for professors and hard classes...I know how that feels. My Bio professor last semester (Evolution and Biodiversity) was a really cool dude and a student advocate in terms of cutting down on enrollment and scheduled classes...but his tests were some of the hardest I have taken. I was lucky to pull a C in that class.

thekegalman - Wow, MCAT...I hope you are doing well on your practice tests. As for summer school courses, well, I will start mine next week, so I'll be focusing on those. Hopefully I'll be able to pull a 4.0 GPA (since they are almost all History course which is mostly memorization). I really need to pull out of the 2 point rut.

Okay people, I just wanted to come in to say that my finals start tomorrow, so I'll be gone from posting until maybe Friday at 2:00 p.m. (Pacific Time Zone)

My Finals Schedule:

Tuesday - Political Science Final. I'm studying for this now, but it's not hard, though it is cumulative. That totally stinks about the cumulative part though 🙁

Wednesday - Chemistry Final. Chapters 1 through 10...it'll be just like any other test I have taken in the class, except it's twice as long, I have twice the amount of time to finish it in, and it is worth twice as much...hopefully the difficulty level is the same as all of the other tests I have taken (i.e. if I study 2 days before, I should get at least an A-) 🙁

Friday - Psychology Final. Harder than the Poli Sci, but easier than the Chemistry. I think that it's a good way to wrap up a finals week after doing an incredibly easy final and then an incredibly hard final. Also my Psych term paper is due on this day. Man, do I hate doing research term papers...😡

As for my grades...it would be super tough to get an A in Chemistry. I'd have to get all questions right with full credit...so I'm predicting a B grade for that class...oh well, there's always next semester...

Psychology - Seems to be in the B range right now, from what I can tell. I don't know, maybe my research paper and assuming my final goes well, should bring this up to an A. I'm hoping as such. But I don't think that it could be lower than a B.

Political Science - If I skip the final, it's a B. If can get an A on the final, it's an A. I got nothing to lose (except maybe some sleep) and everything to gain by taking the final.

English - I have a feeling that my grade in this class is a B...my last two essays were A- grades, but I'll just have to wait and see what I got on my portfolio (Thursday)

After all of this, I will have a 3 day rest (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday), and then I will start the first session of my summer school courses:

Tuesday Wednesday Thursday - World History from prehistoric times to the 19th century (I think that's what it's called...)

Tuesday and Thursday - Intro to American Studies

Oh well, both these courses are more memorization than anything else 😎

Later everyone. I'll be back on Friday!

Thanks for the welcome, guys.

Biodude, it is fundamentals of speech communication. Rhetoric and public speaking. I don't want to take another, so this better be the right one 🙂

As for the Bio class, it was an intro class, but it covered an immense amount of material. It wasn't a full cell bio or genetics course, but it covered a bunch of cell bio, and a little genetics. I'll be taking both of those courses in full before I'm out of here.

If Gen Chem II is easier, sweet. If I know it well enough to help you all, even better 🙂

Anyway, good luck on your finals. I can't believe they aren't done yet.

biodude, what school do you go to?

Hey everybody...gah it's been awhile since I posted here. Just enjoying my summer...only got one class, for geographic info systems. I got 15 hours lined up for the fall. Physics, Biology, Historical geology all with labs and Spanish---I'm thinkin it'll be a really good semester---oh and I did finally pull myself out of my 2.5 gpa hole, i'm sittin right at 3 now...and I was looking and have plenty of room to move it up further( lets keep hoping lol). Glad to see everyone else coming along fine also. Also finished my EMT class and thinking of starting paramedic class in the fall also.....it's only 1 day a week I guess I need to determine if that's gonna be too much with my regular class schedule. Well that's all for now see yall later--Peace--JP

JC:
Sounds manageable to me. If thats what you want to do, I say go for it 🙂 In my experience, the most enjoyable classes are kept totally seperate from the rest, even if difficult, and do not harm my other grades.

Good morning everybody! Hope you all had a safe and pleasant holiday weekend...

My boys had a fabulous time at the zoo. I'm from an itty-bitty town and am always terrified of driving in bigger cities, but I did pretty well and was proud of myself... well, until I took a wrong turn coming out of the parking lot and ended up in the Memphis ghetto for a few miles. Scary.

Today's the first day of my summer term. Micro starts today, and Gen Chem I and Comp II start a week from today. I'm so excited, leaving work early today to go pick up my books and get my parking stuff worked out (I have to have a permit because the lecture meets on a Naval base). I'm such a nerd. 🙂

I've been wondering where Agent is lately, too. Maybe he's just busy with his two kids and two jobs. Yipes! Agent, if you're out there reading this, we miss ya! 🙂

Hey all,

I have a bit more time than I expected from finals.

I don't remember if I said what I got on my ACS exam before...but if you wish to know, I got a 70% on it, which is a B-

Keep in mind that there were topics on the ACS from G. Chem II, and my professor didn't include those into my grade for that particular exam

Hey, deez4life, I sent you a PM

I took my Political Science final this morning. It was pretty easy, and I probably would have done quite well, too, if it wasn't for my professor not giving me enough time to do so. I practically went into a panic when she said, "You guys should be finishing up by now." Why? Well, I was still carefully weighing out some of my answers and had to resort to bubbling in anything in sight 😛

I just hope that either A) I missed only 10 questions or B) nobody gets 100 out of 100 right (my Poli Sci professor grades on a curve - highest grade = A)...that way I can hope that my grade in Political Science is an A...

I still haven't finished my Psychology term paper yet (working on it right now) 😡

I still have the Chemistry final to study for (it's tomorrow!) 😱

I still need to go check my grade for English on Thursday

I still have my Psychology final to study for (not as bad, but still...) 🙁

So, that's my not-so-fun week so far...I'll keep everyone update as the situation improves (or gets worse).

So I just bought an MCAT review book online by Kaplan. My premed buddy, johnathan, a gambling-addict, is betting that he'll get farther in it by the end of the summer. I figure I'd take the bet to motivate me.

What I was really wondering was what are some useful ways to review for MCATs? Do review book really help? Are there some especially good ones? Also... i read a great book last year "Gifted Hands" by Ben Carson. I recommend it to everyone.

Three more weeks and I am finally done!

I've got two weeks left of instruction and only an essay left to turn in the last day of class. Then its crunch time. I dont forsee any terrible grades. All B's or higher. Gotta watch out that the final doesnt kill me and drop me to a B- and gotta work hard enough to try and get that coveted A- or even A! Always dreaming big....

What are your plans this summer? I am continuing my internship at the UC Med Center in the Children's Wing. I am also working my butt off so by next fall quarter I will be a supervisor (I am so excited!) Hopefully I can also land a lab assistant position with one of the profs on campus and make some extra cash that way and get some more experience.

I hope you all plan on enjoying your summer too. I am planning a trip to Santa Cruz and San Diego to see my best friends. Lots of dancing. Lots of movie watching. It should be fun.

Alright, guess I should go study some now. 😱 Have a great day!

Hey all...

First off, I hate studying 😀 Especially for Chemistry, so yeah, I guess I'm off on a break at the moment.

washkeep - Hmm...well, to review for the MCATs, I have heard some suggestions from people who have done already. The most useful one, I think, would be to focus on the areas where you are weak. It's common sense...I'd say take a practice test and start focusing on the areas where you are weak. For example, if you score a 15 on the Physical sciences and a 4 on the Biological Sciences, then maybe you should save the Chemistry and Physics reviewing until after you've spent a lot of time on reviewing your Bio. Also, lots of people seem to say that taking MCAT prep courses are useful. They're pretty darn expensive...I think that you only need to do that if you need someone else to push you to study. And boy do people spend a lot of time studying! The average number of hours is about 300, but most people spend 400 or 500.

I hope that's helped a bit. Oh yeah, and thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely take it.

BallerinaTina16 - I hope that you get your A's  That's good that nothing's lower than a B, though. Plus, those plans for clinical and research experience sound excellent. I hope that you have fun. As for my plans...I don't really have any. I'll be cooped up taking several courses...World History, US History, Psychology of Personality, Hospital Assisting, etc. I'll also be volunteering at hospice and in soup kitchens. Lastly, I'll be working on getting myself back into shape over the summer so that I'll be fit to join the Wu Shu team at my school in the Fall. Let me know if you go and visit Disneyland 😀

Cozmosis - Hey, maybe it'll change, and maybe it won't. Hopefully you'll be enjoying it, dude 🙂 I do hear that it's more fun than G. Chem I...at my school they teach the students how to make aspirin in G. Chem II 😀 That's definitely something that all the pre-med and pre-pharm students are looking forward to!

Speaking of books to recommend reading, I HIGHLY recommend "The Lost Art of Healing" by Bernard Lown, M.D. It's a really good book and certainly opened up my thinking more in the humanistic parts of being a physician. I would also recommend "House of God" by Samuel Shem, M.D., but then you people have probably all read that one already. Everyone I know (everyone pre-med that is) highly recommend House of God. And if you haven't, you really should. It's a satire on what interns (1st year residents) have to go through when they train to be doctors...be careful though. You may not like what you end up reading there.

Oh yes, an update on little ol' me: I just got an e-mail from my health professions club president. She's agreed to allow me to serve on the blood drive committee for the club! It's a first step, because I want to be able to gain a leadership position in the club eventually and being on a committee seems like good experience...I think that I'll run for medical chair next year, and maybe Vice-Pres or President for my senior year 😉

Man I can't believe the semester/quarter STILL isn't done for some people, I'd be going nuts at this point.

Bio dude- I hope your bid for power goes as well as mine did. Your blood drive project sounds cool! That's a noce book list you got there, and I would add "Complications" to the list for all the surgeon wannabes out ther; it's an excellent book about what goes on in the OR.

Washkeep- I'm glad i'm not the only one alreday studying for the MCAT; I've already got all of kaplan's books (feeling a lil gunnery 😱 ) ; I'm currently working on the Bio section, which I hope to be done with by summer.

hmmm where to begin.......I just got done with my pre-med club's imformational package for our seminar; I met with the doctor I will be shadowing today, and followed him around a bit, an FP, nothing too interesting though it was cool to see the gratitude the patients had for him and the fact that he alreday knew most of his patients personally; I told him I was interested in the heart and he said he could probably arrange for me to shadow a friend of his who is a cardiologist (how cool is that?). Also went to volunteer at a homeless shelter today, and it was pretty easy work, I served out meals, alot of the people there were very happy to get a warm meal and were very friendly; some of them looked like they just needed someone to listen to them. Afterwards a swung by the kids area and helped the kids with their homework. PS any of you guys heard of things called mobile clinics? I believe I heard there are some in my town and I was wondering what they were.

Heya Valinor!

Hmm...Complications...I've heard that recommended many many times before, and I sure will check into it.

Gotta stop taking these breaks here, but then again, I only need to score a B- on my Chem test to get a B in the class (an A is pretty much impossible at this point)...a B- would be screwing up on 2 to 3 chapters worth of the test, so it's not like I need to study that hard...

It's not necessarily bein' a gunner to at least start thinking about the MCAT at this point. In fact, a pre-med who took this Spring's MCAT told me that he wished that he started studying at my age, and I've said that quote so many times already

By the way, dude, that's totally awesome that you've taken the initiative to volunteer at a homeless shelter and follow around a doc...I'm glad that my advice helped you and I do hope that your experiences have and will continue to reinforce your motivation to become a physician. Now whenever you wonder why you want to be a doctor, you only need to follow around the doctors and see what they do, or you will see why when you look in the eyes of a homeless person's face.

I hope you're doin' fine!

😛 Hi evryone how are you doing i just got back from my 4 day trip to Athens with my Mum to see my brother it was fine not fine though there was not not much to see in thev city it self apart from the acropolis ,it as beautiful special at night. But the bad aspect is that the city was +pity+ .
When i came back i it was really sunny in madrid.

Bio dude- hope next fall you get the classes you wanted in fall . Quite right with your reasons for doing Summer courses .Personally i do them so that I don't gt to bored.
Ballerina76 - i reading quite a lot now since i don't have much to do.i reading this book in spanish "the desert island" by Umberto Eco. i usually take turns in languages one spanish, english, then french. this because i 'm fluent in all three.

By the way i have aim too search for mmagicab contact when needed

Whoa Valinor you're a volunteer on steroids. I'm impressed. Which volunteering do you like the best?

Dude, people are in school super late. It's June! I hope ya'll start late or a hella long christmas break. Well, biodude you want a break from studying watch one of Strong Bad's emails www.homestarrunner.com (under toons).

What year is everybody in here? Not that it really matters, but i'm curious. I'm a junior and so happy to be done with sophomore year! No more orgo! No more genetics! You know, genetics was worse than orgo. The freakin' bio professors can't teach, the TAs don't really understand the material... most of genetics is still in development. I was pissed 'cause I thought it would be really interesting. lol .. SO wrong!

😡

I'm still just a lowly sophomore. Been taking night classes for 4 years, but it doesn't appear I'm making much progress, does it?

I'm exhausted at work today. Went in to work at 7am yesterday, and didn't get home until 11pm (after class). It's going to be a long summer term. 🙁

Mamma, best of luck to you. You're working so hard, you've earned any success you receive.
😉

Hey all - Just thought I'd stop in and say hi 🙂 Been having a nice relaxing week off, leisurely cleaning and organizing my apt lol, and catching up on some reading. I've been wanting to read the entire Dune series by Frank Herbert forever lol. I checked the ones I still needed to read and "Last of the Mohicans" for the break. After that I'm gonna start on some of the "medical" fiction. I've always loved Robin Cook but actually haven't read any of the ones everyone assumes we've read already like "Intern Blues" and "House of God" yet lol. One of my classes starts on Mon, and the other the following Tues, and then I'll add Calc in July.

Congrats on breaking the 3.0 barrier JP! Sounds like you've got a good balance of classes set for the fall....

Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend Manna! How's micro so far? I'll be taking an upper division of it called Bacteriology in the spring😀

Somehow I doubted you'd be able to stay away all week Biodude  Hope your finals go the way you want them to!

Washkeep - I'm going to be entering my second year at UCCS in terms of my planned graduation, but I'm technically a senior by credit (have around 100 credits already lol). So, I've got O chem this year and genetics in the spring. I've already taken a lower division genetics class way back when I first started going to school, and we use a book by the same authors as I had for that class so I'm looking forward to it. Our teacher is supposed to be awesome tho thankfully. I haven't bought any review books or anything yet since I don't plan on taking the MCAT until Apr 2005, but from what I've heard the Kaplan/Princeton (which you can usually find on ebay) review books are awesome, as are TPR's, and they do really help shore up knowledge and get you used to format. The key of course will be practice tests and time strategies, but having the basic knowledge first is important...

Sounds like your classes are going well Tina! I hope your "dreams" come true for those A-/A's lol. Also sounds like you have a great summer planned!

Sounds like your having fun with your volunteering Valinor! Mobile clinics go around to underprivileged areas providing basic medical needs for the day. Usually dispensing a lot of condoms, allergy meds, etc, but sometimes I'd imagine you get more involved cases too😛

Welcome back Minx. Sounds like you had a relaxing time with family in Greece if not a whole lot of fun lol. Did you get to see any of the sites being built for the Olympics? Someday I hope to see all those wonderful sites you're getting to experience over there. You'll have to get some of us to show you the sites of America when you get here lol.😎

Catch y'all later!
--Jessica, UCCS

Thanks so much Wash...

I heard a quote on AM radio yesterday that I liked so much, I wrote down and stuck on my dashboard.. (I'm big into motivational quotes, etc)

People with goals succeed because they know what they're aiming at.

That's about where I am right now... I know what I'm aiming at, and that's keeping me going. 🙂

Hey everyone, my Chemistry final isn't 'til noon, and it's currently 7 a.m. I'm just reading up on a few things that I didn't review last night. the info all seems pretty easy...the hard part is of course the memorization 😀

minx - glad to hear from ya dude! Heh, you get bored if you're not in school? 😛 That's cool, though it's rare when I find someone who's bored when he/she isn't in school. Oh yeah, and I will definitely hold you to that AIM...I've already mentioned mine, but if you didn't catch it, look up my profile. It's in there 😀

washkeep - It's not June yet, dude, and I will be done with finals at the end of May 😀 My Fall semester starts at the end of August. As for BallerinaTina16's schedule, if it follows one of my friends' schedules, then she will start her next quarter sometime in the middle of September. Oh yeah, if you'd like to know, I am currently a freshman (though I will be a sophomore after taking my summer courses). But, I will not take Organic 'til my junior year. I'm not worried about that though, 'cuz there's less Organic Chemistry questions on the new version of the MCAT. Oh yeah, thanks for the link. That's pretty darn funny!

manna - Well, if you have the determination and the drive, you'll be able to finish what you've started. Besides, all us board members will be here to support you! Right everyone?

That's all I have to say, I guess. Wish me luck on my hardest final today! 🙂

It was relaxing to just get away with the kids for once... would have been easier if my husband had come along, but maybe next time. 🙂

We had our first meeting of micro last night... it was LONG (5 hours lecture) and pretty boring for me, as we were just going through introductory and historical stuff, most of which I was familiar with already from a book I just recently read about some of the most important medical discoveries, which particularly happened to concentrate on the golden age of microbiology.

All I can say is... at least this class only runs for 7 weeks. 🙂 My gen chem and comp classes begin next Tuesday (they're both online, so no commuting! YAY!) 🙂

Hope you enjoy your break!

Good luck! 🙂

Thanks Bio... I believe if I have one redeeming personal quality, that tenacity must be it.

And this thread is great... you know, I said I was going to just lurk around or leave SDN for awhile, but I couldn't stay away. 🙂

Whoa Valinor you're a volunteer on steroids. I'm impressed. Which volunteering do you like the best?

What year is everybody in here? Not that it really matters, but i'm curious. I'm a junior and so happy to be done with sophomore year! No more orgo! No more genetics! You know, genetics was worse than orgo. The freakin' bio professors can't teach, the TAs don't really understand the material... most of genetics is still in development. I was pissed 'cause I thought it would be really interesting. lol .. SO wrong!

i'm finishing my freshman year but i have advanced credits.

Hard to choose, but I guess I really liked the homeless shelter.
Seems like me and Biodude are the young ones here. Im going to start sophmore year next fall.

I wish I could have found an on-line chem class. (I found one out of state but the tuition was absolutely ridiculous!!)
Do you any of you science majors dread the days when you will have 3 labs a week? Anyone doing this and working? I really like micro but unless I can avoid working this fall I may have to choose another major!! 🙁 But I cannot imagine not learning more about histology, pathology, pathogenic microbiology 😍 ..ahhhh. *Sigh*
Maybe a minor then in micro. I guess I'll have to talk with my advisor over the summer....
