Well, last night was exhausting, I'll tell y'all that. I'm just not cut out to be a night owl
😀
I'll pull through it though. Intro to American Studies seems to be an interesting class...the professor is totally INSANE. He rants a lot but he's a brilliant guy and his rants actually make the subject seem more interesting!
Well, American Studies is going to be quite a difficult class...basically, we cover the social, economic, public, and private values of Americans from the 17th century (the Puritans) through the twentieth century. It's not a history class even though it does count under the "American History" gen ed requirement. Oh well...
By the way, I had to buy 4 textbooks for this class
😱
Luckily they were all cheap (15 to 28 bucks each)
Here's the breakdown of the lectures:
Reading assignments before lectures.
Lectures meant to supplement and explain the meaning behind the readings (because some of the readings are so bizarre that we may have no clue what the meanings are!)
Grading:
There will be a mid-term and a final. Each is worth 50% of the grade...so all my grades for this class will be based off a mid-term and a final. Swell...oh yeah, I forgot to mention, these two tests are both ALL ESSAY (this is why I said that it was going to be difficult)
😱
On the plus side, the final is not cumulative
😎 and a good final score will cancel out a horrible mid-term score (i.e. if you get an F on the mid-term but an A on the final, the professor will give an A grade for the class)
That's it. I'm glad that I don't have to go to that class today so that gives me less homework to do (whenever I say homework for these two courses, I mean reading assignments)
I forgot to mention for my world history (world civilization to the 16th century) class...the professor is going to cram most of the info at the end for the final so that we will actually finish this session one week earlier than the official schedule says we have to. The professor doesn't want us studying over Independence Day
On the plus side, that'll give me more time to study for my American Studies final.
Oh yeah, remember when I said that I wasn't going to be surprised that my first exam would be next Tuesday? Well, my first exam in World History is next Tuesday

My mid-term for American Studies is going to be on the third Thursday of summer session courses...so that would be the 19th of June.
Skaterbabe74 - I guess you are right. Summer/winter session courses do seem ridiculously easier than regular semester-long courses! Oh well, I'm glad that I'm getting rid of some of my more boring GE's (such as history) during the summer. At least it'll be easier and faster. That's cool that you finally got your textbook.
Oh yeah, and I know how ya feel. Next time open up microsoft word, copy/paste the post onto word, and then try and see if it'll post up. If it doesn't, at least you don't have to type the entire stupid post anymore. It's much much much more frustrating for me since I've got insanely long posts
😀 But at least I figured out a solution to the problem.
minx - Hmm, Tai Chi class eh? Which style? Yang, Chen, Wu, Sun? Most likely Yang. Sorry for askin' but you know, I'm a martial arts fanatic, and Chinese martial arts in particular. Believe it or not, Tai Chi can be used to fight...it's just that most of the people who take it nowadays take it primarily for health-based purposes, rather than self-defense purposes. Same goes for people who teach it. But I digress...
Which summer school courses are you taking?
2badr - I see now...that's a very good back-up plan
😉 If you don't get to do anything, how about asking him a question or two, to show your interest and also to learn why doctors do certain things. I remember when I followed around a surgeon. He asked me questions when he was performing surgery...
Oh yeah, and be sure to enjoy your summer break! It might be one of the last one's you've got for quite some while.
Now I come back to what's happenin' here. Well, so far my TB test shows negative (and I think it's stupid that I have to take this test, but whatever...I've seen and had enough TB tests to know when it looks negative and when it looks positive) Well, that's nothing new, I guess. I wasn't expecting it to be positive anyhow, though I have to wait 'til 3:00 p.m. tomorrow to check with the nurse who will verify it being negative. This is ridiculous, of course, because 1) I've never had tuberculosis 2) I've never been exposed to anybody who has this illness and 3) all of my TB tests have shown up negative before this one. Oh well, the volunteer/work/health courses require it just to be sure...
Next week, I'll be seeing if I can sign up for that ROP course. I really wanna be able to see patients and check their vitals and maybe sit down and have a conversation with them.
By the way, washkeep, since you brought it up, would you go through a foreign school to accomplish your goal of being a doctor?
I'll be doing my reading assignments now...
