Hi all,

I'm a Canadian student and I'm planning to write my American DAT some time on mid-september, now I realize this is very late. But I don't know if I should just go ahead and apply...

My GPA is not great, it's around a 3.2...But I'm confident that I can do well on my DAT and hopefully score around the 90th percentile. What do you guys think? I have 5 schools in mind for now (NYU, Colombia, UPenn, Tufts and Boston). I know some of them seem out of my reach but i just want to try. I figure even if I don't get anything this year, at least I have the experience of being an applicant?

Thanks for your thoughts, I really appreciate it and goodluck!

I know many people here are crazy and kicking themselves for not completing their applications in the first WEEK of the cycle. Do not despair---anytime before September is considered early. There are some schools that have yet to respond to applicants who applied much earlier. Good luck canuck!

PS. It is definitely a good idea to apply even if you do not think you have a good shot. If you know you can improve and you have the $ to pay for applying, then all the better for you next year if you don't get in.

I say go for it. Your schools are Canadian student friendly, too. However, if something goes wrong with the DAT, might be better to re-test and save the time and money for next application cycle.

Apply. 🙂 Good luck on the DAT!

You know... we really have to change that term now since it is an inaccurate description of what takes place.

The Canadian DAT is pencil and paper. I'm so glad for that. 😳

A 3.2 with a 21AA is still a little iffy for a Canadian applicant..not to mention applying in September. I predict that IF you do get an interview, it will be in late March. I would drop your hopes for Penn and Columbia and focus on the bigger schools with insane tuition: NYU, Boston, Temple, USC.

thank you all for the suggestions. I'll definitely look into Pitts and Temple. I heard that Colombia looks heavily on the DAT? I acknowledge that my GPA really hurts my chance, but I'm confident that after this year I can have it up to 3.4. Do u guys think that will give me a better chance? Because I realize in predents.com some people got admitted with a low GPA as well....I figure if I don't get in this cycle I will try again next year and use my gap year for more shadowing experiences....

I might be pretty old when I get in one day...haha probably around 25...

So you can pick up the piece of paper and turn it around on the angles?

You can even see the last page of the PAT before the test starts 🙄
Get 5 pattern folding questions done in your head before the test even starts... although I don't know how reliable your answers would be... trying to figure it out from "seeing through" the last page 😎

Have you given up on Canadian schools? Canadian DAT?
