OK, growing up on LI (ny) I have heard many horror stories about winter in buffalo. I hear it snows so hard in Buffalo that there are times you cant open your front door. Some guy I met a couple weeks ago told that they have tunnels connecting the undergrad dorms to the building so you can get to class. Someone else told that it not so bad in Buffalo itself but the surrounding areas are terrible. Ppl make it sound like Buffalo is covered in polar bears and white walkers. I'm headed there in Jan for an interview so I'll get a taste then, but since its my state school I am extremely curious whats actually going on up there.

So, to sum up, is buffalo livable? Or is it only for winter loving lunatics and Canadians ?

KillaGorilla I often hear that the weather is very similar to New York City. It is very cold and very snowy, but there is probably more snow upstate NY than down here. Although the schools never closes because they have a very good salt and plow system. I think it might be a lot of snow but from I hear the school is very amazing and well worth the snow hassle.

good deeds to you.

I'm wondering this as well. I've heard everything from "You'll get used to it" to "I would never move back". Any insight from anyone who's lived in Buffalo would be awesome.

The wind gets bad, besides that it is comparable to most places in NY/PA for snow and temperature. Also dont count on the tunnels being open, in the 4 years i was there during my original undergrad they where open less then a week....

Though i should mention the summers in buffalo are great, especially having that cool breeze off the lake.

Although I haven't spent a winter here yet, I thought I might add this: You can get from the dental school to the anatomy/biochem building to the lunch building all through tunnels and skywalks. You only have to go outside when walking to/from your car (or the library). If it gets really bad, that's a nice feature.
