Guys,
I have just started at reputable medical school after having the luxory of a choice. I ultimately chose the (negligibly) lower ranked one, b/c it really struck as a "special" place. Horse****. Nothing here is really clicking for me: personally or academically. None of the slides are up b/f class, there is no Mac support, the class schedule suuuuucks... I spend most of my time on the other school's website realizing how much better an institution it is. When I think back about my decision, it seems like weather and girls were my biggest. So stupid and now I am paying for this mistake. Is there any way to get into the other school- reapply? They don't take transfers and that would be too awkward... I am really at a loss and can't sleep obviously...

It's way too early to be having regrets about your decision.
To be honest, as a 4th year I can tell you that weather and girls is a HUGE factor and should be! 😉

Buy a Dell.

Speaking of Dells, whatever happened to that guy from the Dell commercials? I always found him witty and informative. I miss you, Dell Commercial Guy (Who Looked Like a Guy I Graduated With).

Got caught at airport with dope

I think the only thing you can do is withdraw from you school and reapply in this admissions cycle. However, you will have to write on your application that you matriculated elsewhere and your reason for withdrawing. The reason has to be good otherwise you will be looked down upon for withdrawing. I'm actually in a similar situation. Let me know what you decide.

LOL, my best friend went to high school with that guy. Said he was nothing like that in person.

The grass is always greener on the other side. The first two years of med school are just you, the class notes, and the review books. So grit your teeth and get back in the library and try to ace the boards. 🙂 You can transfer after 2nd year if you have a good reason but you probably won't want to once you are working on the wards.

I agree that the OP should suck it up, but I wouldn't recommend trying to go it alone the whole way. Good study groups are invaluable.

Yeah, suck it up. When you make a decision, be confident in it and learn to live with it.

Also, I agree with Mike59. Weather and girls should play a huge role inyour decision. 😀 It may be the one of the few things that keeps you going in the future. Wait until you get to 4th year. I bet you won't be complaining then.

I am a 4th year and I on cloud nine right about now that I have the time to really enjoy my city's nite life. You should see the hotties I picked up during a nite club Binge last weekend. I won't even mention the ones from July.

Well bless your little heart. Poor baby. There, there, now.

Sorry if you wont recieve much sympathy here, but suck it up man!!
Buy a Dell, make friends and hit on some of your classmates.... sheeet thats what I did.
The important thing is that you are in med school, now be a big boy and make the necessary adjustments. Bitching about your situation is not going to win you any sympathy (or friends), especially when many, many people wish they were in your shoes.

another career cut short by early onset glaucoma-so sad!

Umm. I don;t get it. You want to drop out of medical school because they can't put the slides up before class and have poor IT support??? Meanwhile, there are people out there who missed the cut off by like one point and don't get a chance at med school at all. Man, some ppl really can't appreciate what they have. WHy don't you try to keep the big picture in mind -- you're here to learn medicine and you're going to get pretty much the same education no matter where you are. On top of that you got good weather and hot women. Don't be a tool. And stop browsing the other's school site -- it won't do you any good. Trust me -- any school you go to will have its own pros and cons; your success depends only on your own attitude.

to start off, this is for my friend, not me. also, i am not being a "troll" here, i am genuinely looking for help for her. does anyone have any experience with this situation:

Ok, so, my friend is in DO school but hates it and is getting a ton of getting federal loans. How would it work if she quit and went to MD school? Would she have to start paying on those loans NOW or could they be added onto from the MD school assuming the total balance stays below the 180something maximum and then start paying back like she normally would have?

Also along those lines, she has no desire to transfer into a ms2 or ms3 position, but to just completely start over even though she would be leaving the DO school at the end of her ms2 year. She retook the mcat and went from a 24 to a 33 and has a 3.4 gpa. Would the MD school know she went to a DO school before? Is she required to say? would it matter if she said? i think she said she is about average in the class, grade wise.

finally how would it affect the DO school? is it really bad for that school or just someone they dont get an extra 2 yrs of money from??

I guess she was hoping that since there is the aacomas and the amcas separately, that there would not be communication between the two in applying.

she just doesnt want to go to the DO school anymore badly enough that she would be will to start completely over. just a personal choice, no good solid extenuating circumstance. a transfer would be great, but not needed.

we appreciate the help.

If she just wants to leave DO school just so that she can get an MD, then I think her problem lies in her self-esteem. DO's can apply for just about any sub/specialities an MD can, so I dont really see why.

Just my 2 cents.

she said that she was upset that some of the surgical rotations wouldnt work with her, and they had specifically listed because she was a DO student. i think it started there with her. is that a bad reason to list if she reapplied??

Theres no f'ing way in hell that you have already gone through medical school, gotten your MD (as you claim in another one of your posts) and can't apply some common sense to this issue....

This is an utterly ridiculous thread. Who would repeat the first two years of professional school for marginally more prestige and marginally better conditions? I wouldn't take one year off for a nobel prize, a supermodel girlfriend, and guaranteed acceptance into HMS. Tell your "friend" to grow some testicles of tungsten.

Maybe they wouldnt work with her because he is a "student" and not a "DO Student." And yes..........that would be a stupid reason to list if she reapplied.
