I'm going to be reapplying this upcoming cycle, and originally, I was going to work as a teacher next year. But I got an e-mail from Rosalind Franklin about a one year Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program. It seems kind of interesting, and I am thinking about it. It says if you are a student in the Biomedical Sciences program, you are guaranteed an interview if you apply to another school or program within RFU. Sounds like a good deal, right? Here's my dilema.

If I work, I get paid. I could save up for medical school. I would be living at home, so no rent to pay or food. I wouldn't have to worry about car payments because I would probably take the train to work every day, and give my car to my mom. BUT, I haven't had one interview this year. A bunch of possible interviews, and I was on hold for a long time at a bunch of schools. So the guaranteed interview seems really enticing. But RFU is in Chicago, I live in NY. I would have to leave my friends and family for the year not knowing where I would end up the year after. Ideally, i would love to stay in or around NY. Are there any similar programs in this area? I'm talking one year programs, I don't want to take 2 years off.

In case it helps anybody, my stats are 3.6 GPA, 23 (7 PS, 7 VR, 9 BS) MCAT first time, 29 second (7 PS, 11 VR, 11 BS) and I just took it again this past Saturday to try to bring up the PS score. I've a bunch of volunteer and EC's, and some great LORs.

Don't do it. They screwed around with it this year. If it was the same as years prior, I would do it. Just raise your MCAT.

Raise that MCAT and save up some $$$. I dont know about you, but a year in North Chicago would make me gouge my eyes out... with a spork.


if you're serious about a post-bacc/ masters type program, look at Georgetown's SMP. Much better track record and RFU seems a bit shakey, imo.

If you really want to do post-bacc, then find a good program. otherwise raise your MCAT and get a job. and if you don't have a lot of medical experience (volunteer, shadow, job related to medical field), then you should.
