I went on a cruise trip to bahamas for the new year. Before leaving i went to the US embassy website to get the list of emergency medical numbers,etc. and i found out that there are Podiatrists in bahamas.

http://nassau.usembassy.gov/list_of_doctors.html (see in the Podiatry/Foot&ankle section)

Just in case, if any of us wanna practice in the carribean. im sure there will be a good number of patients with ankle sprains,trauma,etc because of the water sports :)

Any idea what the scope of practice is like down there?

(2) In the course of engaging in the practice of podiatry as a podiatrist a
person may, subject to the terms, conditions and limitations imposed on his or
her certificate of registration, perform the following-
(a) communicate a diagnosis identifying a disease or disorder of the foot
and ankle as the cause of the person’s symptoms;
(b) cutting into the subcutaneous tissues of the foot and ankle and bony
tissues of the foot and ankle;
(c) administering by injection into feet and ankles, a substance
referred to in the Third Schedule;
(d) prescribing a drug referred to in the Third Schedule.
14. The qualifications for registration as a chiropodist or a podiatrist are that the
person-
(a) has a degree or diploma from an institution accredited by the American
council on Podiatric Education; or
(b) has successfully completed the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists of the
United Kingdom Part III exams; or
(c) has successfully completed a program in chiropody or podiatry which the
Council considers equivalent to (a) or (b).

Not sure if that's somewhat close to what we have here in the states.

One of the guys that I looked up there has a DPM so it must not be that bad.

I am a Bahamian student studying Podiatry and the scope of practice is on par with the US. Glad to see yall are interested...don't expect all "water sports" injuries though ;-)

"Its better in the B-A-H-A-M-A-S (sounded like Bahamers:laugh:)...". Remember that commerical advertising the Bahamas as a vaca destination?

I don't know how you hurt your foot practicing "water sports"...R Kelly's feet seem fine. Too inappropriate for this forum?

That's pretty good. :laugh:

What is page link for quoted section of Bahamas podiatrists qualificationes needed?
