I wanted to hang this up on the wall....now what? 😕

People will think:
-I forged it myself, or
-The medical school is 2nd rate

😡

Do I ask for another?

Tell them you lost it but would like another copy so you can frame it.

what was the error?

"Please consult the enclosed materials for specific notification instructions since your acceptance is conditional upon their successful completion by matriculation."

no error there. "their" is referring to "enclosed materials"...

completion of the enclosed materials, you were probably thinking that they meant "your successful completion...", but..naw...no error.

I think the their is refering to the "intructions". But what do I know.

While the sentence is a magnificent example of saying with many big words what could be expressed with a few simple ones, I think it is grammatically correct -- THEIR refers either to "the enclosed materials" or to the "specific notification instructions" that must be completed.

I think you should frame it BECAUSE of this gobbledygook, not despite it. A reminder to never talk or write like an adcom ...

Is this post some sort of test of the gramatical skills of SDN posters?

why would anyone hang up their acceptance letter? thats weird, i didnt

ummmmmmm not an error

And you consider yourself an 'A student', sheesh, is there something you're not telling us about your English grade? :meanie:

This is definitely NOT an error.

However, I must say that almost every piece of correspondence I have from the UNC School of Medicine contains a grammatical error. The most glaring error is from the so-called "do not despair" letter, in which the phrase "do not despair" is appended to another sentence--making a run-on sentence. What's worse is that I have the exact same letter from three years ago, so no one has bothered to check the grammar in at least three years.

Maybe if you point it out to them they'll accept you 🙂

Hopefully the OP did not complain to the admissions office yet.

When I saw the subject heading of this thread, the first thought in my head was, "Oh, well if there's an egregious grammar error, heck, frame the letter and hang in on your wall! It'll be a hoot!" Very few people will read the whole letter, anyway, and anyone who thinks you're going to an inferior med school because one of the possessive pronouns has an unclear antecedent is not really your friend.

if there is an error on something, hang it on the wall to see who your smart friends are who catch it

I just got a kick out of this sentence. 🙂 You're absolutely right, a true friend would never hold an unclear antecedent against you. 👍

Congratulations. You have achieved a new level of absurdity.
