I respectfully have to disagree with you Nze. But we're going to have to agree to disagree. From what I can understand, your point of view is that people use faith or religion as a handicap. Faith can take on several forms not just religious manifestations. I do believe that people have faith or religion to help give them purpose in life. Religious books have us believing that God created everything, but because of my years in the educational system I have learned that life started as microbes, bacteria, etc., the universe was created by the Big Bang. I have come to learn all these facts contradict what religion has taught me, so then I modify what I choose to believe are the works of a divine being and was comes from scientific fact. True some things are scientific fact but I can not be faulted for believing in other things.
I realize that babies come from sperm and eggs. The egg is fertilized and over the next 9 months grows and evolves thru mitosis, meiosis, or whatever other processes it goes thru. But experience the miracle of birth thru your own eyes. Hold that 6-7 lb. baby in your arms and tell me that you aren't a part of something bigger than you. Something special.
The beauty of Faith is that YOU choose to believe. I don't expect anything to be given to me. I have put in the hard work. Supporting my family, raising my children, helping my wife thru medical school, working and going to school full time, studying for hours on end just like everyone else here is.
I came across dentistry as something I would love to do for the rest of my life by accident 8 yrs. ago and since then I have worked as a dental hygienist for 6 years. My experience have allowed me to see great, passionate, unbelievable dentist and a lot of not so great ones. There are a lot of people that are smarter than me, but I believe that there aren't too many people that I have come across that know how to relate to patients and provide the same care or "bedside manner" as I can. Please take it from me. Books aren't everything. Sit down and listen to someone. Learn to relate and interact with people. I think listening is a great asset to have and I guarantee you when you get to that point, your patients will appreciate it too!
