I opened the mailbox today and I found a thin envelope from Maryland staring back at me. My jaw dropped! Here it was . . . my first rejection letter. I opened it up to read their explanation. To my surprise, it was a letter thanking me for coming to an interview with them.

Here's the text:

Thank you for visiting the University of Maryland Dental School. We enjoyed meeting you and are pleased that you have applied to Maryland.

All dental schools have agreed not to make offers before December 1st, and we support that policy. In the meantime, I encourage you to contact our office if questions arise that had not occurred to you earlier. If you are visiting other schools and you encounter features you did not see here, please check with us before you assume that we do not have them. It is important that you be fully informed before deciding which school best suites <spelling?> your educational needs.

This is my first thank you letter FROM a school. Anybody else get one of these?

Hehe - I was kind of surprised to get the same thing today. My first thought was, "No way! Rejected already!"

I actually took it to be a positive sign since it was asking that we remember Maryland as we interview at other places. But, if everyone gets one, maybe not.

Sounds like they already accepted you. Congratulations! I'm still waiting for my app to be sent out. This is really a torture!

i hear ya luder... just been waiting for a little over 3 weeks or something now... patiently waiting... the wait is the worst!

I can't concentrate doing my work during the day. Been trying to call AADSAS to fix the damn error. It took forever to get through. I ended up staying late to finish my damn project. 😡 😴

Hey Javadicavity,

I had the same reaction when I opened my mailbox the other day. My girlfriend was standing beside me when she noticed where the letter was from, then she proceeded to say "I thought you said the interview went well" HAHAH. See MD is my number 1 choice, so all I kept thinking was oh nooooo! Glad to see I wasn't the only one. Do you think you'll go to MD if ya get in?? Just curious to find out.

ya i got one of those too, and my heart fell when i first saw it..

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who had to change his underpants after first seeing the envelope. If I'm accepted, I'm seriously considering Maryland. So, I was shocked when I thought I had been rejected. I too thought the interview had gone really well, and I couldn't imagine what went wrong. I was relieved to find out it was only a thank you letter.

I got a thank-you letter from Case Western, Louisville, Arizona, Creighton, and Marquette the year that I interivewed, so perhaps schools aren't sending them out as frequently as they used to?

For me at least, it seemed to be the norm.

i interviewed at case and marquette and a few other places and did not recieve thank you letters, so i am guessing you are right, most places don't do them anymore if they used to.

That will leave one more spot in UoP for others 🙂

Well . . . I'm seriously considering UOP. I'm not going to make a decision until after I hear back from schools next month.

And he's seriously considering UNC 🙂 Although if he wasn't it would make it easier for me!

JavadiCavity,
After reading your post about the schools I have come to this conclusion. Since you will more than likley get accepted at each school you applied to here is what you must do. Accept them all, and then decide where you want to go, then divy up the rest of your acceptance letters to us SDN members. I think luder98 called your UoP acceptance, quakinator called your UNC acceptance, and I think I'll take your acceptance to UNLV. Anyone else want to lay claim to JavadiCavity's acceptance letters?

Done. But I was thinking that maybe I should sell them to the highest bidders. That would be a great way to recoup some of the money I've spent going to interviews.

I must warn you that California is a "bad" place! When you come here, it's not easy to leave.
Yeah, put it on ebay. I'll be watching. Just hope it won't turn out like the last item I won. The guy never sent the item. Paypal could only refund half! 😡

Hmmm, that sounds nice, but how about this: I know where you live, and I will terrorize you and your children. Now give me your UOP letter.

For those of you with Maryland interviews, how long did it take to get an interview after they received your AADSAS application?

It wasn't instantaneous, of course, but as I recall it was a few weeks. My application went out around the first part of July and I didn't hear from the majority of my schools until mid-August / first part of September. As I recall MD was one of them which contacted me during that time frame.

When my kids see an a little short dude without arms or legs, I promise they will be terrified! Anyway, you'll get your own UOP letter--just call them and tell them they forgot to send it out.

UT Houston sent a thank-you letter as well. I received it about 3 days after my interview. I certainly was puzzled and concerned when the envelope arrived, but relieved when I saw what it was.

don't be surprised though by getting acceptances in tiny envelopes. all of my acceptances came in these and i thought it'd be a long winter but i was happily surprised when that wasn't the case...so good things can come in small packages..^_^

Hey, I just heard from UOP on their website. I was not chosen for an interview at this time. My application will be reviewed at a later time....Uh huh...!
