Applying I have a good DAT and sGPA and cGPA. I am wondering if there are other factors that can hurt an applicant at this process besides grades and scores? Any input/suggestions would be great!

Things that hurt applicants:
*Poor personal statement
*Poor EC's
*Poor LOR's
*Not submitting application early enough
*Making mistakes on the application
*Not enough shadowing hours
*Having a poor interview
*About a thousand other things

Actually, I was looking at Asian stats, and it does seem like we have a disadvantage. The acceptance/applicant ratio is low.

Uhhh, some schools have a really high acceptance rate of asians...if you're smart enough to go to dental school, then you'll go.

maybe because too many asians apply. but c'mon, we're all pretty good with our hands. we have decades of experience manufacturing virtually every product available in the states.

Chinese Asians only, though.

Everything else. From what I understand once you get the interview it means your scores are high enough that they could take you and they want to know if there is a personality behind your scores. If there is make it count if there isn't sayonara (unless of course your scores are so high they couldn't possible turn you down 4.0 on everything and a 27 DAT can definitely help).

not necessarily true! i was talking to a dentist on an interview committee and he told me he interviewed this girl with a 4.0 gpa and 24 DAT and he mentioned how she wrote her personal statement about a cat and asked why dentistry and not vet school to which she replied 'my parents told me vet school was so competitive so i thought it'd be easier to be a dentist' the dentist told me he ended the interview right there and she got rejected that day

stellar stats will not save you from stupid things that come out of your mouth

i highly doubt a girl with a 4.0gpa and 24DAT would be dumb enough to think that vet school is more competitive than dental school and say something like that at an interview none the less.

but i do like it when people on the admissions committees make up elaborate stories, or people on forums make up elaborate stories about people on the admissions committee.

would you like the man's email so you can call him a liar to his face? and i don't appreciate insinuation that i would purposely provide false information for people on this forum, when i am here for sharing information like everyone else

just because you hole yourself up in your room studying and get good marks does not give you any sort of social grace whatsoever. numbers wise vet school is more competitive, and the girl was also foreign and probably not familiar with an interview process

I once heard of an applicant who has 4.0 GPA and 30AA, but was rejected. He was a ninja, so the interviewer could hear him but not see him at all. His 2x2 picture was a blank wall. True story bro.

:laugh: This thread was sort of getting back on track until that. Thanks for the feedback, I guess I am just nervous about getting interviews and such. My transcripts are taking two weeks now and I am nervous about them possibly being lost.
