Student should be aware that anytime you contact a school (via email, website, or phone call) it is documented and either put in the file or their admissions system. It is important to BE PROFESSIONAL AT ALL TIMES! You can't use your IM lingo. Spelling, grammar, and punctuation all count!

The reason for this post is that I've seen the messages and emails students send to us over the last few years get worse and worse. It's a horrible reflection on the applicant. I'm a student worker in my schools admission office and can't believe how unprofessional some students can be. If you want to apply to a professional or graduate school, then you'd better be mature enough to know the level of professionalism it takes.

Some of that goes for sites like these too. You should remember that there are Admission Directors and office staff that are looking at these posts.

Its true. Dr. Jane Munroe, the admissions director over at SCCO, told us recently at an admissions workshop that schools have now been browsing the web and looking at applicant's MySpace and Facebook pages to "see how you present yourself to the world." After learning that, I set all my profiles to private 😉

Yes, the Adcoms do read SDN. It would be hard here, though to Id someone with an anonymous user name. they mainly read them to get anonymous feedback on the school/admissions staff/ etc

They'll never catch me!
