By the end of this semester, I'll have a science gpa of 3.11, and cumulative 3.54

I'm a history major. I have an upward trend in gpa. I am going to take the DAT late July, and then quickly submit my application to AADSAS and TMDSAS (in late July). I'm a Texas resident. Think I have a shot at getting an interview somewhere (besides McDonalds )?

how many schools are you aiming at besides the 3 in TX?

Also, keep this in mind, taking the DAT in late July means your application won't be ready at schools until late August (since I think the consensus is that it takes AADSAS 4 weeks to receive your DATs)

I'm thinking I'll probably apply to a total of 15-20 schools, including the 3 in Texas. And yea, I am really thinking I'll get a 20+ for DAT. This past year I've learned so much, and I have a great understanding of biological concepts.
I'll probably start studying for my DAT around May 20, and take the DAT July 20.

sounds like a plan.... best of luck to ya

I had 3.2 gpa and 3.03 sgpa, DAT 20AA. I interviewed at UTHSCSA. but no acceptance yet.

Good Luck!!! study hard and kill the DAT

Take your DAT earlier. Your Sci GPA is below average and if you take the DAT the end of July, that means your application wont be complete until mid-late September. You'll be giving people a two-month head start, which is not something you want to do with a lower GPA. Even if you do get a 20+ (which is definitely doable), you're still two months behind everyone else.

Woot another history major!

Believe me, I want to take the DAT earlier than late July, but I need to have sufficient time to study for it. Hmm...maybe as soon as the semester ends, I can start studying the DAT everyday starting May 16th...then study for 6 weeks and take the DAT the last week of June instead of late July? Is studying for the DAT for 6 weeks and getting 20+ plausible (btw that's ALL I will be doing with my time)?

If you have an upward trend of 40+ hours (I had 60...because i really needed it... really bad screw ups in my past) and get at least a 20 on the DAT you have a good shot at Baylor... granted there are other factors... btw I took my dat on July 10th last year... I pushed it a week because i didnt feel ready, for a total time of 8 weeks of study. If I could change it I would have studied way ore efficiently my first 2 weeks and studied only 6. I also believe in taking it when you are ready and studying for every possible situation... (ex: I took more than half my practice tests with noise and distractions I essentially got good at blocking out distractions lol)

It took forever for my app to transmit though and I was really worried but my app transmitted on a friday was reviewed the following monday and I was offered an interview on the following tuesday. Nothing is impossible, just bust your butt, even if it doesnt pan out keep trying. If you want it you'll do what it takes.

Absolutely. I studied for 5 or 6 weeks while working 30+ hours per week last summer and got a 22AA.

If you start studying right after the semester ends, and you already feel that you have a strong understanding of the concepts, then schedule it for June 20,21. Then you will be able to get your completed app in by July 1st. I submitted my app on July 1st and started receiving interviews in mid sept. I also took the DAT June 21 and started studying May 16 (day after graduation). Spent the week before living it up .

Awesome. Thank you everyone for the encouragement and practical answers. I hope you guys are having fun in dental school and not still being in my pre-dent shoes 👍

Could he not submit the AADSAS as soon as its open and do the DAT in july? I'm facing a similar situation.

If you kill your DAT (21+) and apply very early, you could land an interview. It's kind of a crapshoot if you ask me since your sGPA is pretty low by Dental School standards.

if I were you, I would try to have at least letters of recommendations mailed in on the day the applications open (depending if you're gonna do HPAC or not) just to have it on file and when the semester end, send in your transcript as well. Submitting those in early May can save you a week or two when comparing to sending those in June/July as this is the time everyone sends in their load of crap so it just takes a longer time to process. Then you can take your DAT in June or so and have it it submitted. Should save you a couple of weeks of waiting for TMDSAS to have everything and confirm it's all there. Good thing is you are starting to plan now instead of a majority of students who starts to plan their application when the semester ends.

I also plan to take the dat around mid june... but my understanding is that I cannot submit anything untill june 1st (LOR, PS, Transcript etc.). Is this incorrect?

Assuming one wants to be as early as possible - when can they start to send in their said information to AASAS?

You can definitely knock out a 20+ by studying 4-6 weeks. I'm also not a bio/chem major, so I felt like I needed extra time to study, but I just did 4-5 hrs a day for 6 weeks (no studying on weekends).

The earlier you can do it the better, you really want that appliction submitted as soon as possible with everything completed.

make sure all of your letters of recommendation are ready to go by june first. my school's pre-health office collects them... so when AADSAS opened up, I created an accounted, printed off my matching forms, and sent them to the pre-health office so they could send my letters out. I also requested my transcripts and sent in the corresponding matching forms.

Also, around the time AADSAS opened, I figured out what each of the schools needed for secondary information, and got all of that prepared so I could send it out quickly.
