Hello everyone

I'm a new member here. My name is Dalton and I'm 21.

I've had a medical condition since birth, I'm actually waiting for a surgery date to replace my pacemaker in the next couple weeks. But lately I've been thinking about my condition and others who have it much worse then me and I'd love to help people, like myself, have a better life.

Now I know the road is very, very, very long, but worth it in the end no doubt.

I'm just looking for some suggestions and comments? I'm planning on going to school after I recover from my operation; so I'm fresh meat so to speak 😛

Thank you!

First of all let me say that I wish you all the best. If medicine is ultimately where you end up, you'll have a vantage point that few have the benefit of.

But in order to advise you we'd need to know a little more about how far along you are academically. For instance, if you haven't started ugrad yet, my advice would be to concentrate on your recovery 1st and foremost and take only a few courses at a time, making sure you give yourself the opportunity to do well. Medicine is a marathon. There will time to build ECs later.

On the other hand, if you're close to graduating or have alot of ugrad under your belt the advice will vary alot based on your situation and numbers.

Best of luck. Concentrate on your health. There will be time for all the other stuff later.

I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Welcome to SDN. There's a lot of information here that will give you a good idea of the path you've set yourself on. Read a lot, then ask questions. We're happy to help.
