Hello, I am a D1 and just ordered a pair of surgitel loupes at our school's loupe day this last week. There were a few companies there and they all ranged in a similar price range for the loupe light combo, around 1200-1500. Mine cost $1400. So I started looking online and found new ones on ebay for like 50 bucks.

I am considering ordering some of the cheaper ones and seeing if I like them and returning the surgitel ones since I have a grace period after receiving them.

Examples of cheap loupes:

Has anyone had considered these or tried them?
Thanks

Eh Id say give them a try. $50 isn't that much to lose in regards to dental school cost. One word of warning is to be mindful of the durability/ reliability. They may work great for a few weeks then something may go wrong. Most of the time you get what you pay for. When purchasing the more expensive loupes you are getting a higher quality product (in many aspects) usually customized to you and superior customer service to help with any glitches along the way. But everyone has their own way of valuing the above product aspects. But since the ones on eBay are so cheap, give them a shot. Let us know how they compare.

A lot of people will buy loupes from other students but it depends on how tall you are and your working distance. I left dental school about a month ago and I am 5'8''. My surgitel loupes are in perfect condition and I also bought the light but since I'm no longer in dental school, I don't need them.

I think it is a good idea to buy used loupes to see what you like and then save money for high quality loupes when you graduate or later on in school.

Not trying to push my loupes on you (although I'm interested in selling if you want them 🙂 ) but I've seen a lot of students do that and they are much happier in the long run.

At $50, it is hard to expect any "customer service" let alone, "superior customer service".

Ebay loupes have one working distance which means that you'll have to contort your body to work within that working distance. Unless you have long arms (since those have a BIG WD), I'd use the loupes that you bought. You have a long career ahead of you, best to use something that's custom fit for you. With the grace period, you can always send them back/get them tweaked as needed until your time is up.

I will probably purchase one of the cheap $60 pairs and see how they are. I will post on here once that happens

that right, you can always send them back/get them tweaked as needed until your time is up. thanks
