Hey everyone, I'm really looking for some advice here.

I graduated two years ago with a computer science degree and I've been working for a fortune 500 company. I'm thinking about going to dental school, but I have to take all the prereqs.

My question is: does it matter if I take as many as i can through a community college or should i take it at an accredited university? im hoping to work while I complete the prereqs.

thanks for all your advice

I did what you are contemplating doing. I quit a fortune 500 company, took ALL my pre-reqs from a community college, did fairly well on the DAT and got into 4 very respectable schools. I was worried just like you that my CC classes may be an issue, but this was never brought up in any of my interviews. Good luck in the future. Caveat... I took 5 upper div. biology classes including Biochem, Micro, Cell Bio and Physio at a 4 yr. Univ. Also my CC classes were taken at an accredited community college.

I too worked for a F500 company and decided that I wanted to go back to school to become a dentist. I kept my job and took my pre-reqs at night at the local cc. Do well in your classes and the DAT.

My hard work paid off and I am so excited to be attending Houston in the fall.

Good to have you around. That's a great story.

I totally agree with clindt and wimmcs. Taking your pre-reqs from a cc wont negatively affect your app as long as you do well on your DATs. I would definitely work to get good grades in the science course and make sure you do well on the survey of natural sciences. Plus if you take the science course from like a huge state university, they are mostly wash out courses, whereas CC science classes dont have that reputation. Good luck with your decision. 🙂

I'm doing what you are considering.

I still have some more prereqs to take but I feel like I've got as good of a shot as anyone.

Doing the same thing. Good luck!
