I apologize if this has been asked before. My third year will end in February of next year, leaving us with four extra months of fourth year. What do people generally do during this time? Most hospitals don't start accepting away rotators until July, correct? Should I just do research rotations to beef up my application? I don't have to decide on my schedule for quite a while, but I'm curious as to what people do in this situation.

I'm pretty sure you can do aways at anytime, i talked to a carrib who had like eight months of aways.

VSAS listings of schools typically explicitly state that only 4th years may rotate there.

OP, you could try contacting some of the schools that otherwise would only allow 4th years and state that all of your 3rd year cores have been completed. Might be worth a shot. Otherwise, research may be a good idea if you have several months.

I'd go with research, especially in a competitive field such as derm (if possible).
