So, here is the question to current dental students:

Do dental schools also have a "white coat" ceremony for dental students like med schools do for med students? I'm just wondering because it sounds cool to have one.

Yup. UMDNJ has one, so I'm guessing most schools do it too.

Case Western has one, and so does NYU.

pitt, penn, columbia, minnesota and harvard do too. i assume everyone does.

So with this whole ceremony thing....

Is it some low key thing with just your class, the dean and a few faculty, or do family members also come to watch?

family members come watch, there are speakers, its a formal event. everyone recites the hippocratic oath and receives a white coat. sometimes people cry.

It's a big deal and every school I know of has one. Family comes too. It is our rite of passage into the profession.

So, does it happen at the beginning of dental school or at the end?

I also think every D-school has one. I know UF definitely has one..it was really nice. Most faculty comes, family comes, speeches are made--it's cute, and some people do cry. At the end, they take a picture of the entire class on a huge staircase, or some other pretty place (at UF). I think dental schools do it at different years...but, I'm pretty sure all of them have one.

i went to one of these @ northwestern med school. a few speakers, some awards given to faculty, hippocratic oath, blah blah blah. i wouldnt have my family travel anywhere for it.
