I really want to apply to pharmacy school this summer (Going for Class of 2018) and this pre-req schedule was killing me for the last two days T^T

I am currently a third year

Pre-Classes that I still need to finish are: Biochem (153A), BiochemLab (153L), Communication1, Econ1, Anatomy1, Physiology1 and Micro1. (The bold classes are the ones I have to take it at community college summer session because my school does not offer these class during quarter and are only offered during summer which is really really expensive because I have to pay them out from my own wallet. Currently, financial stuff is really not looking too good for my family so it is really out of my option... )

Problem: I was working out my schedule for my senior year and I am able to finish all the re-req classes on time EXCEPT for one of the community college class.

-For example: If I take Anatomy1 and Physiology1 during this summer, I still would not be able to take Mirco1 because there is a class conflict. I can't take Micro1 in community college AND attend my university during the regular quarters because going back and forth is already over 1.5 hours and there could be midterm/final overlap.

Question: Then I was thinking to myself is it okay to take my last pre-req class during the summer of 2014 (So another summer class next year) as long as I receive my grade before August is over? (Reminder: I want to apply as class of 2018) I went to the pharmacy school websites and almost all of them says it is recommended to finish pre-req classes at the end of spring quarter of your senior year so if I take my last pre-req class during the summer vacation of next year which is after spring quarter.... would they not look at my application at all because it is considered to be incomplete? Am I not allowed to do this?

Can someone please help me with this problem? T_T It's been really stressing me out for a while and thank you for taking your time to read this confusing(?) post, I really appreciate it!

Depends on which class you are considering to take during the summer before Pharm School enrollment and what school you are accepted to.
Based on what I've seen so far, all science prereqs must be done by the end of Spring quarter/semester before school starts. I've seem schools allow students to finish non-science prereqs by the end of summer term, but I guess this will depend on whether or not there will be an overlap between summer term and first day of pharm school.

Don't worry! I have plenty of friends who got accepted to pharmacy school this year and are having to take a summer course(s) to fulfill their pre-reqs for that pharmacy school. Most pharmacy schools have a deadline which is normally the first week of August to have it all done. Of course, they would prefer for you to have it all done at the end of spring quarter, but they also do understand that not everyone may be on the same track so they will not hold it against you. But, one class is not going to make your application incomplete. As long as you turn in everything on time and have good stats, you should be fine! Good luck!

It depends on the school whether they allow you to take courses in the summer directly before. A significant amount of schools say no though and you don't really want to limit your options. Are there other local CCs that you can look at with multiple summer sessions? A Cal State school? How many other courses do you need to fit in for your degree? You could probably find just about any college to take those at but to do it without wasting $ could be challenging.

I think you said you went to UCLA..confused how they could only offer those courses in summer. 😕

I'm pretty sure UCLA offers Microbio (MIMG 101?) during the regular academic year.

I know you said that these classes MAY have a midterm/final overlap, but I would go with this option if I were you.

1) Most pharmacy schools WON'T allow you to take summer courses the semester before entering pharmacy school.

2) I would just take it up with the instructors once you get all the syllabi from them and if there happens to be a conflict between classes, see what they are willing to do OR offer to take one of the midterms early (the easier class if possible).

3) If you really want to get into pharmacy school in 2014, you'll probably have to suck it up and go back and forth for the 1.5 hours each day. I've been going to a university for 3 years now that is 1.5 hours from my house. Some semesters I have done it 4 days a week.

If it is absolutely not feasible and the overlap would make it impossible to attend class at all, then ignore my post.

Take an Adderall.

This is an issue on scheduling, not an issue regarding TS's capability to focus.

OT - You said that you're going to take anatomy 1 and physiology 1. Do you refer to them as two completely distinct classes, or one class (i.e. A&P 1)? If you're referring to them as two classes, I'd say take microbiology and either anatomy or physiology, then take the one you didn't choose during the regular school year.

Please contact the schools you are interested in applying to. Most of the time you can find this info on their websites, but if not, please call! One school I applied to said all prereqs must be done by Spring, another allows prereqs to be taken the summer before classes start (including science prereqs), and another says no science prereqs over the summer, but they still offered me an interview even though I'm taking A&P 2 this summer.

Once you know this info for your schools you will be better able to make plans for how to handle this situation.

I applied to University of Wyoming, which states on their PharmCAS page that all prereqs must be completed by the end of spring term. I had not taken Biology 2, or a psycology elective that they required, so I put them as to be completed that summer (even though they say you can't). I was accepted, so I know that some schools will let you, but I would definitely check with the school as I know for a fact that some will not let you do that.
