In response to a thank you email a program director said, " I hope you choose to come to [blank] to do your residency with us."

Is this a common canned response? It seems to imply a good ranking but I don't know.

Trust no one. The fact is, programs are trying their best to fill. They want everyone whom they interviewed to rank them highly. That increases their chances of filling, and filling high on their rank list. Many programs take it as a mark of pride that they only had to go a short ways into their rank list to fill their class.

I agree. PDs/Chairs have the ego-thing going on about "...only going down to #10 to match our 9 residents!" I guess everyone needs something to be proud about! They basically tell everyone that they will rank them highly. I wouldn't put any weight into such comments. But doesn't it make you feel good? 🙂
