are the blocks on the actual Step II exam 46 or 50 questions long? I can't find it on the USMLE/NBME website anywhere. I just want to make sure I'm pacing myself right, since all the practice materials (NBME exams, USMLEWorld, etc) are 46 questions long...

There are 8-46 question blocks with 15 minute breaks between with some time for lunch. I was wondering the same thing when I was using UW.

i don't know where you took it, but at most testing centers, there's only 1 hour of total break time throughout the day, including lunch, tutorial, and bathroom breaks. if u took 15 mins of break time after each block, you'd be out of break time before lunch.

I dont know the exact amount of time between blocks. I would take two 46 question blocks, take a 10-15 minute break, two more then lunch, two more then another break, then two more and done. Also, you can skip the pointless tutorial and buy yourself more break time.

yeah, you're break time totally adds up if you don't use all 60 min per block. I had a full hour for lunch and I took an extra little breather between sections 7 and 8.

okay, so there are EIGHT blocks? For some reason, I've been thinking all week that there are NINE blocks....(no I have not read any NBME material yet- that's Friday as I'm taking it Saturday). Awesome!

Yes, 8 blocks (46 questions per block)

the intro to the new edition of kaplan qbook describes the test day as 7 blocks of 50 questions...hmmm

Step 1: 7 blocks (50 questions each)
Step 2: 8 blocks (on average 46 questions each, but it can vary, because there are also matching type questions on Step 2)

Kaplan USMLE step 2 ck qbook 3rd edition: page 31--"you have a total of 8 hours to complete 350 questions in 50 question blocks"

Kaplan USMLE step 2 ck qbook 3rd edition: page 31--"you have a total of 8 hours to complete 350 questions in 50 question blocks"

According to Step 2 CK First Aid (2006):

"It is a computerized test of the clinical sciences consisting of 370 multiple choice questions and divided into eight blocks"

According to kaplan website:

"The Step 2 CK exam contains 370 questions and spans 9 hours of testing (including an hour of break time). It is administered as eight, 1-hour "blocks" of 46 questions each."

I don't know why Qbook is saying that. 😕 Since all the practice material provided by the NBME (self-assessment tests/USMLE CD etc) and USMLEWORLD Qbank all follow the 46 question format, it's safe to assume that the real deal is going to be something very similar.
