What exactly is your personal statement?

Is there a certain question that you answer, or is it just a declaration of why you want to be a doctor..?

I'm referring to the one on the amcas application since a couple of people have already mentioned starting on theirs...etc.

Does stuff you say on the PS (for amcas) ever get recycled into your answers for other essay Q's on secondaries...or is that seen as being repetitve??

yeah your personal statement is supposed to answer a somewhat broad prompt that is given by amcas...if you want to know what that is then you can find that out by going to the site and getting that information.

its basically why you want to be a doctor....what influences or factors have led you to this decision....you can take the time to address things like bad grades and stuff if you want and if it applies to you...

so yeah check the site.

I can't seem to find the exact prompt, can someone post it?

Just don't use the PS to describe and justify every imperfect grade - BIG NO NO. Also, DO ask a friend to look over it once you think you are done

fine since noone is doing it...ill stop being lazy...

this is what it says on the amcas application..

some of the questions that you may want to consider...

why have you selected the field of medicine?

what motivates you to learn more about medicine?

what do you want medical schools to know about you that has not been disclosed in the other parts of this application?

In addition you may want to include this information as well...

special hardships, challenges and obstacles that may have influenced your academic pursuits...

commentary on significant fluctuations in your academic record which are not explained elsewhere in your application.

hope this helps.

thanks so much jlee!!!

If someone was ever convicted of a felony, would they disclose it on the PS, or on the secondaries, or not until asked?

The usually ask about a felony one way or another in the application.

If the application didn't ask about it at all then one of the correct ways to approach it, would be to mention in the PS that one was convicted and signs of rehabilitation as well as what he got out of it and how that lead to his/her passion for medical school.
