Strictly related to med-school because of its effect on the central nerve system and vasodialations of course

"You know you are in med school when you catch yourself in having google'ing the word "coffee" for 45 minutes instead of coffee" - Happend to me before lol...

I love coffee breaks, they make my day so much better... And less efficient because they are usualy to long if Im studying something that is boring (like biophysics)....

.... I just had 4 cups the last 2 hours... Feels good man

I love coffee, but the other day my urologist told me that he wants me to cut all caffeine and spicy food from my diet. Supposedly it can cause/aggravate prostate problems. It is a bit*h. I never realized how many drinks I like that have caffeine in them. I miss coffee. 😡 Screw the prostate.

Screw that.. That would be the worst news ever.... A guy in my class had to take the 1'st year over again because he got what they though was hernia at the end of the second semestetr the first time.... It ended up beeing that he somehow couldent process caffeeine (or something like that) so it crystalized.... It was in the exam period, so he was drinking alot of it at that time...

I wouldent worry about drinking coffee unless you have some kinde of condition that makes you exposed to prostate problems (do you?)... But of cours... Everything in moderation! (except during the exams :meanie: )

who me?? haaha jk, i love the stuff too.

Almighty Caffeine, I worship thee. 🤣

not that webMD is the ultimate research source, but I've read two of the original studies the article mentions and it's accurate..

love coffee.. drinking it right now. black. It's fine to drink as long as the caffeine dose doesn't cause insomnia/palpitations etc. far healthier than soda, processed juice, anything with sugar in it imo.

That article just made my day 👍

i miss it! i cut out all coffee after finals. it's day 3 without coffee and still hard to function. at least when i start up again it'll have more effect...

guilty of fattening Starbucks' profits, several people suggested trying Mickey D's new cheaper coffee's --> 👎barf:

get a coffee maker instead.

exactly.. it's surprisingly hard to find *properly made* coffee considering the number of places that sell it. Once you get a coffee maker, buy some nice beans, and start brewing your own, store-bought coffee just doesn't taste as good (unless it's from a good mom & pop local coffee shop). For whatever reason almost all mass-marketed coffee is weak flavored and over-roasted. (jmo).

I LOVE me some Caffe Santo Domingo!

...but sadly I've sworn off coffee until classes start again in the fall. 🙁

I have yet to find a good reason to lay off the brew. I hope I never develop GERD & have to give it up.

Are you 80? How old are you that you need to worry about caffeine causing prostate problems?

Not that I know of. I had a different, yet possibly related, problem of which the diagnosis is pending. He said there seemed to be some fluid around my prostate and gave me the spiel about cutting out all caffeine.

Late twenties...... Lame👎

decafalon: the grueling event of going without (or at least trying to) your regular daily intake of caffeine. Usually in an effort to be more healthy.

I know that none of us speak French. BUT, I believe that everyone in this thread can relate to the following:

And Starbucks is the worst offender in that. Their coffee tastes flat-out burnt. You might as well filter hot water through some charcoal and drink that.

I never drink coffee. However, if I really have to on rare occasions, this works the best without all the side-effects:

Agreed! I prefer gas station coffee that's been sitting on a hot plate for 8 hours to that sludge Starbucks serves up.

I always drink my coffee black and Starbucks coffee is just plain painful to drink black.

McD's coffee is surprisingly my favorite.

For those of you that brew your own, what coffee maker do you use?

I recently had to return my Hamilton Beach (for a couple of complications) and purchased a Cuisinart brewer which I've yet try out.

I wanted to try one of the Bunn models, but they were too expensive.

I think I am going to have to buy a Hamilton Beach. I just hope the lid seal stays tight.

Also, for those who brew their own... what kind of coffee do you buy? Whole beans only, of course... (I would especially appreciate items under 10 bucks a bag)

I buy mine from Trader Joe's, 26 oz cans for 10 bucks, and as good as any other coffee I've had.

I've gone through two Mr. Coffee coffee makers. They were kind of sad because they like to spill everywhere when pouring.

A few months ago I went with the Cuisinart DCC-1200 which was about $63 when I bought it but it is nearly $70 now. It's a nice coffee maker and is the best selling coffee maker on Amazon.

If you like espresso more, I'm not sure what you'd want to buy to make your own.

If it's espresso you crave, the bialetti is what you need.

Get a french press people! First, it's more economical; instead of brewing a whole pot you're not going to drink(Or keep it warm for hours until you drink it then, which would be worse than starbucks coffee) you can brew one press, and if you need more coffee, brew another one. This will help you to not waste so many beans, and since coffee actually is pretty damn expensive for something you go through so fast, will save you money. Second, the quality is SO much better.

Man, rockstar is so disgusting. I'd prefer to drink tea, but when I'm at school, I really need the bitterness and extra boost of coffee to get me through the day. I drink it black. I quite like the french press idea.

I'm curious how many people microwave their old coffee sitting in the pot from earlier in the day or the day before rather than making a new pot? I do and I always find it funny how it disgusts my girlfriend, haha.

I do too! I was really suprised the first time someone told me it was gross. I only do it because my family always has, and I think that they do because they're cheap (I say this with love).

I usually drink my coffee sweetened and creamy, so re-warmed isn't so bad. If I drink it black I like it to be a little fresher/higher quality.

I do this sometimes, but it never tastes the same.

I have a four-cup coffee maker so I don't have to end up microwaving old coffee, I just make it as I need it.

If you want to save money - roast your own beans. You can buy a pound of quality green beans for $6, then roast them the way you like them - it's fresher, cheaper, and much tastier. Plus you can get a wide variety of beans from all over the world.

And try a vac-pot. Much smoother than a French press.

Coffee sucks!! It tastes like chalk!!

Ha, you're missing out!

Start with lots of sugar/cream and then over time you can wean yourself off.

I love it black.
