I had to alter my schedule; all the games end by ~4:30 (east coast), so I start studying at about 5:30 and go for ~8-9 hours. I haven't had >5 hours of sleep a night since the world cup started, but I sort of make up for it with a ~2 hour nap between the morning and afternoon game XD.

hahaha ditto. The only thing I can do is watch the 9am morning game (pacific coast time) because the afternoon game is smack in the middle of studying and the early morning game is well...early morning. I guess it's better than the time different in 2002 for Korea/Japan

Change your schedule to PDT and that will probably limit yourself to the third match of the day always.

last week (since friday)
i havent studied until today lol
i wanted to watch Italy game too, but i told myself
that if i do, i will get a 20 on the mcat.
i wanna watch Portugal vs Ivory Coast tomorrow
but i cant

they've won 3 out of the last 10 (40 years)

so using your logic, it's a waste of time to watch almost any professional sport.

And what about in the last 4 world cups?
oh that's right they won it twice
btw, is there another team who's won it 3 times in the last 40 years?
Or is there another team who's won it 5 times?
kool....

lets compare other sports
Last 10:
Nba: lakers 4 spurs 3
MLB: Yankees 3 Red Sox 2
Nascar: Jimmie Johnson 4
French Open: Rafael Nadal 5
NFL: Patriots 3 Steelers 2
Tennis Majors (excluding French): Roger Federer 4-6
Golf Majors: Tiger Woods 3
Le mans: Frank Biela 4, audi 7
Olympics: Most sports have dominant countries
Nba 90's: Chicago Bulls 6 (Must have been utterly pointless watching MJ in the post season 🙄 )

I ask you questions about the WC, and you answer by bringing up MJ
Thanks for the argument

Another interesting set of data: Brazil has lost to France twice in the last 3 cups. By those standards, you'd probably be wasting your time watching a potential Brazil-France game if it comes up in the tournament. 🙂

That's a good point.
France USED to be a great team (w/ Zidan)
But let's see if they can get out of their group first, cuz I honestly doubt it

Brazil almost lost to North Korea, the worst team in the entire tournament

But even if Brazil was guaranteed to win, that doesn't make the Cup and less fun to watch. I mean, back in 1997 when Titanic came out, everyone knew it was going to sink in the end, but the movie was still popular around the world.

That's a funny story
Brazil was up 2-0 until around the 90th minute and they almost lost?
And how is North Korea the weakest team?
They were surprisingly good, but that doesn't mean they are the worst team
Anyways of course you should watch the WC. It was a sarcastic comment...Kinda sad that I had to mention it though!

not that i really like north korea, but they're communist. no one really knows how good or bad they are so they just stuck a last place ranking on them. i'm pretty sure they're much better than last tho after having played such killer d..

Speaking of NK being a communist...
The commentator actually mentioned that the government paid some Chinese actors to come to South African and pretend to be NK fans...
I guess it could be true since NK citizens can't legally leave NK

Nothing special about the NBA finals... they happen every year... World Cup is once every four and is watched by over 1 billion people. The NBA is watched in the US (and maybe Canada)... it's broadcast in more countries than that... but no one cares for them much.

That said... GO LAKERS. And Go BRAZIL!

You guys realize more important things are happening like the NBA finals.

Lakers 😍

LOL, sorry mate, I had to comment on this...they really did Dominate today...Not ;p

With that said..Let's GO Brazil n Germany ^_^

NBA = Boston all the way n_n

I don't know if you watched the game, but Spain did dominate. They just failed to take advantage of the million opportunities they had. Should've won 5-1. 85% possession, were on offense the WHOLE GAME, 4x scoring opportunities and shots on goal, etc. It was a fluke.

Uh, they are the worst ranked team in the World Cup. That's a pretty well known and published fact.

Lakers 😍

I haven't been able to get into the NBA Finals like I've wanted to, and I'm not a huge fan of either team. That said, Boston is probably the lesser of the two evils, so I'm kinda hoping they pull off the upset tomorrow night. :luck:

As for the World Cup, I've been impressed by Brazil and Argentina--haven't seen Germany yet for some reason. It doesn't matter to me who wins (unless the US does the unthinkable--then I'll have to change my mind about that ). I just like seeing the games whenever I'm able to watch!

Yea it's really annoying that they're on early.. not that the world should revolve around my schedule but it sucks. Before world cup came on I'd wake up every morning at 8, make breakfast and eat/watch the news between 8-9. Then begin studying at 9 and do my first 4 hours session of the day until 1. Now that the world cup is on... I end up watching an entire game no matter who is playing once I put ESPN on just because I"m a huge soccer fan. I realized how much time I was wasting though so now I'm only watching the USA games... which after the England match probably aren't worth the time anyway..
I don't bother using my DVR to record it because it isn't the same watching it after it already happened. I can't go on msn or go to work or anywhere for that matter without anyone telling me or asking about what happened that day. Today I got 4 text messages asking me if I believed what just happened with the Spain game.

I'm a little rusty on my World Cup Soccer.

How many points does Spain get for dominating and being on the wrong end of a "fluke"?

ZERO points! Technically not really a fluke. SPAIN always does horribly at the World Cup. I have them finishing second in their group behind the Swiss. I would have had them eliminated, but they should be able to beat Chile and Honduras without much problem.

I haven't followed soccer as faithfully as others, so can someone sum up for me why Les Bleus stink in this tourney?

Their players are great, it's just that they lack team work. They play somewhat lazy and disorganized.
Ribery makes great moves, but when it comes to passing and crossing he does horrible. Same could be said about 90% of the team.
They gave up a horrible first goal (to Mexico) due to lack of communication, and that penalty was just unnecessary.
And now they have 0.001% chance of moving on to next round.

This isn't true... they still have a chance to move on. They tied their first game with Uruguay. If France beats South Africa and Mexico looses to Uruguay by greater than a 2-0 margin... France would move on ahead of Mexico. Another option is that Frace ties their next game and Mexico looses their game with South Africa. Chances are slim, but not as low as 0.001%. That would only be the case if France had lost both games so far... in that case, they would be out.

.001% chance of that happening

Remember that Urguay already beat South Africa 3-0 and Mexico struggled to a 1-1 draw. I think there is a very good chance Uruguay will win the game.

Yes, and you remember that Urg. and France tied, yet Mexico beat France 2-0. Wow I just realized France hasn't scored a single goal yet...
